We got our results today, still trying to decipher raw/scaled score. DD got EXS for everything, which is great, but it's very hard not knowing what she would have got on the old system!

Mine got EXS in all as well. Had to Google to see what the raw scores were out of. Reading is out of 50, Grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling is out of 70 and mathematics out of 110.

Dd came home with hers 111 maths, 116 reading and 108 spag. The teacher told them individually at the end of day and said well done. I'm glad she has reached the expected standard but hope we get further info in the end if year report as can't really tell how well she's done.

I don't have dd's results yet. Not worried about them as I know she'll have done ok, but curious about what to expect.

What is EXS please? Expected standard? Confused

Also, will we get both raw scores and scaled scores?

She only just got over 100.

Yes Broken EXS is achieved the expected standard. Raw scores and scaled scores both on my results sheet, assume others are the same.

Same Feck we got 101, 101 and 106.

We didn't get a results sheet it was just a piece of blank paper with 3 scores. I just know from mn that 100 or above is the expected level.

I think the national average was 103/104 scaled score for anyone interested.
So, if your child got 100+ they 'passed' the test. If they got above 103/104, then they did 'better than average'. Max score would be 120 - full marks.

Thanks for all the info!

Crutches can I congratulate your DD? I am a marker and the tests were tougher. Your DD is one of the 53% who met national standards across all the subjects in what has been a very, very tough year for all involved. Well done.

DD got 115 reading 114 spag and 115 maths.

I'm very happy with how dd did, but I'm struggling to understand the point of the scaled scores tbh. A percentile or something might be interesting, but I can't really see what the scaled score tells me that the raw scores don't. Except that the reading test was obviously "harder" than the maths, because dd's percentage score was higher for maths than the reading, yet her scaled score was lower. Confused

Thanks for this thread it has been extremely helpful as I had no idea how to decipher the scores ☺

Thanks for this thread it has been extremely helpful as I had no idea how to decipher the scores.

Me neither. There was no explanation of how to interpret the scores, and no indication as to what the raw scores were out of. Also, all the abbreviations like EXS were misleading - dd's teacher told her that she couldn't get higher than EXS for the maths and reading, and her test results would seem to back her up, but then it was possible to get the "GDS" result in writing. Confused Spent all evening trying to explain to DH that it didn't necessarily mean that dd's reading/maths was less strong than her writing, but he didn't really get it.

Also, science - dd got EXS but neither she nor I really know what the other possible results might have been.

The old levels weren't perfect, but at least I knew roughly what they meant. Under the new system, I can tell that dd has done well, but no idea how well or what the results really mean.

Oh well, suppose they don't really matter that much in any case...

The only possible results for science are EXS or HNM - has not met the standard.

Teachers are telling kids their scores?

I shall be phoning the school in the morning asking DD not to be told.

Report
mrsglowglow · 06/07/2016 21:54

Yes Lynette I was very surprised dd had a piece of paper with hand written scores. Teacher called them in one by one. I only got them after casually asking had anyone mentioned them at school.
