Newland House

Hi,

We are looking to relocate from central london to Twickenham/Strawberry Hill area. Please can I know your thoughts on Newland House school? My colleague went there 20 years ago and remembers it as quite "militant" which is funny because the current head has a military background and I noticed the kids all jumped up our of their seats like little soliders when we visited the classes. The children didn't look particularly happy in the upper school and the head is a bit odd and cold. However it is the only school we have a place in, academically it looks ok (though none to the top schools such as St Pauls - is that because of distance or they just can't pass?) and I like the music programme.

Any thoughts welcome. This is a huge decision for us.

i know kids who have been there, all very sporty/competitive types (might be the ones i know though!)

the local primary schools are truly excellent though so don't rule them out if you can get a space. only those with PLENTY of money do private primary in Twick ime. lots do private secondary, but not primary.

don;t know about st paul's. it is a long way from Twickenahm - over an hour on the 33 bus (to the girls school) and then a 15 min walk. with LEH/Hampton etc i am sure most local parents wouldn't put their kids through that commute.

hi there OP. have you heard more about the school? what are your last thoughts? it would be great to share thoughts. do you work in the city? I started a thread not long ago about commute. if newland house is a good option (will visit in september) and if we can get our hands arplound long commute we might still consider Teddington which is a great area in my opinion
