It's ds's 6th birthday on Saturday and he's asked for books. Can anyone recommend any? We have the first couple of horrid henry's and a big Roald dahl collection already.

May not be to everyone's taste (i.e. don't buy if you hate toilet humour) but Captain Underpants was a massive hit with my six year old. We have now read the whole series and he wants to re-read them again.

Jeremy Strong books are funny and not too rude.
Graphic novels like SpongeBob Comic Crazy if you want some variety.
Guinness Book of World records always goes down well with kids.

Fact books might go down well. We love Usborne See Inside books. They're lift the flap, but very detailed.

Dirty Bertie?
My ds likes that along with the ones you already have but also a big encyclopaedia or a book about space or atlas
We also have some of the Star Wars and marvel reader books

My DS is 7 and he loves the Mr Majeika books and has started to read the temple run series where you decide how the story will go depending on choices you make in the book.
He also read the owl who was afraid of the dark at school and enjoyed that

DS got given Billionaire Boy by David Walliams for his sixth birthday. I wasn't sure at first but he hasn't been able to put it down and is the first book I haven't had to nag him to read.

DS loves the Dinkin Dings books by Guy Bass - about a boy who is scared of everything - apart from the monsters under his bed!
