As a teacher I hope this is wide spread enough to cause chaos (in terms of results, percentages and league tables; obviously not in the classroom)

If testing and sats have not improved or changed when dd1 gets to that age I will be removing her from them. They are utterly meaningless to everyone apart from the government!

I know a few people who can't get childcare so aren't striking. They signed the petition though

Why isn't it being planned during sats week? That would make a much bigger impact.

Cynically, because an even longer Bank Hol weekend is nice. It's not uncommon for industrial action to be planned for times that are pleasant/convenient to the strikers, and that can attract criticism.

Personally I think unless the strike is held during the actual week of the tests, it doesn't have any impact whatsoever. Will just mean a quieter day for the children in classes where children are absent. Just sounds like an excuse for an extra day off at the bank holiday.

I think I'm getting muddled up as I thought it was a protest about ks2 sats, hence assuming people were doing it next week.

DD2 is y6. Our school takes a sensible approach in both y6 and y2.

No. Because my dc are not special snowflakes. They have tests every so often at school, and they do well or badly in the tests depending on their abilities and the teaching. We haven't opted to get all hand-wringy when our dc don't do well and we haven't decided that poor performance in tests labels them as failures. We haven't decided to make a big deal of any school tests, in providing extra coaching or special treatment on the day.

My dc also take music exams. We don't make a big deal of it. We don't tell their instrumental teachers that the dc are too little to be put through grade 1 piano and they should spend the day being kids instead.

Frankly I'm bemused by the whole SATS hysteria. Parents getting worked up about routine and nationwide tests won't help their dc develop a positive attitude to GCSEs and the exams that do count

LadyPenelope - the KS1 Sats don't have to be held on a particular date so it's not possible to strike on the day of the tests.

No - although I totally agree with and support those that do I won't be removing DD from school because a. She wants to go to school
b. I have to go to work
