Address on Application

If you buy a renovation project well within catchment for a school but then rent out of catchment (but within distance for furtherest away for latest figures and have sibling at school) and are still building by Jan 2016 can you use in catchment renovation address on the application?

Not London but still slightly pressured south east school!

Thanks

I believe that the address you use on the application, has to be the address you're actually living at at the time of the application.

Have you checked the guidelines for your LA?

Admissions guideline mainly focuses on the extension bit when you're buying a house and you need to send proof of exchange (which we'd have...) and also talks about where you'd be living in the September a bit. No definite mention of renovation projects which would be near completion good damn them.

If we go with that option there would be a time pressure then!

Talk to your LA. They may be willing to accept the address of the house you are renovating in these circumstances but it is their decision. Make sure you get any answer in writing so that you have proof if they do something different. If you have a telephone conversation with them email them immediately with your understanding of what was said.

A friend did this. She was told she had to use the rental address (and it may have been related to the fact they'd never lived in the house, not moved out temporarily for renovation. Don't know).

As it turned out, the rental was fractionally closer to the school she wanted so all was fine, but she was worried if she put down the rental address they'd think she was faking it so checked!

I do think it can vary by area, and by whether you have ever lived in the house (there is a London scam where people move out 'for renovations' for the crucial application window and rent a one bed 25m from the school gate which they have tried to clamp down on).

Thanks all, I guess we'd have to wait until December and see where it was and then contact the LA. We wouldn't have lived in it at all as would need replumbing, rewiring and sorting out before you could.

I am never buying and selling houses ever again and school catchment is a definite downer on having three children!
