Help appealing school place

Hi

Need some advice please.

Moved area, dd in y3. Schools usually oversubscribed. Council wouldn't offer me a place until provided them with tenancy agreement which was the day before I moved and the day I finished or half term. So since Christmas as I knew I was moving area I have been to see school I wanted arranged after school care while at work, paid deposit, done settling in periods at after school club etc.

Only for a school to now become available at another local school, but they do not have the facilities I.e before and after school club to enable me to work my hours (lone parent).

Now his school I want is oversubscribed. It has 34 in year 4 and 31 in year 3 currently.

So my thinking is they can make it to 32 has they have 34 in the year above.

I have said I am appealing which means my daughter going back to her old school on Monday.

I need the school as I have set everything up from there. And the place at new school I won't be able to work.

Have I got a leg to stand on with the appeal process?

Any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Thank you tiggy I will base my appeal on my child's needs. She is mildly dyslexic and I believe the school I would like has better provision to support her rather than the one that I have been offered. Can I use this?

Never as such promised a place, bit of background is I sold my house last summer and started looking at schools went to see the head teacher at the school of my choice spoke about the needs she told me school over subscribed but all schools are thin this area and it is down to the admissions dept. head teacher then proceeded to tell me the numbers in each class hence why I have the info. Then my house fell through and I sold it a couple of weeks ago. But in that time I have rang up every month to check placements with school of choice and other schools and all been full to which I would if been offered school I wanted had this place not become available at alternate school (literally the week I moved). Should I mention this in appeal?

I am aware of the rules regarding juniors and able to go over class size. So am thankful she is in year 3.

Is it worth popping in school and seeing the head teacher to explain situation to see if she can do anything or would that seem to pushy?

Thanks again for all your advice

Thank again for the advice. I have just had information from the council that the pupils that have been admitted to make the class over in year 3 and year 4 are as a result of meeting the exceptional criteria or having there appeal upheld. Can I request info of the exceptional criteria or details of previous sucessful appeals?

Thank you

Thanks again tiggy, you are very informative.

Last question for the time being. My situation is I was going to keep dd in old school until appeal heard. As it takes upto 30 days I am coming to the realisation that this may not be do-able as it means her living at my parents in the week while I work. Which is unfair to dd and my parents.

If I took the place they have offered me at the other school, can I still go ahead with appeal while dd attends a local school and would it be seen to affect my appeal in anyway (I am guessing yes)

Thank you

Sorry for Late reply, no Internet in new house as yet.

What a relief, that I can take the place offered while appeal heard. It just would not be practical for dd to go to her old school for another 30 days plus. You have been very informative and I am very grateful for all your advice.

While I am preparing for the appeal if I need to ask any questions would you mind me contacting you again please?

I feel so much better about the whole process now, so I am very thankful for you taking the time to answer my questions.
