Infant and Primary Schools in Haringey (nr Turnpike Lane)

I am getting quite anxious about applying for schools. My son will be starting reception next September and I am starting to look at the schools around my area. Although there are a few with Good Ofsted reports such as Belmont, North Harringey, Lordship Lane, Noel Park, South Harringey etc I am not convinced they are particularly nice schools and also I don't seem to fit into the catchment area of most of them. I just wanted to find out whether anyone has any children that attend these schools (or any others in the vicinity) and could give me some insight. I am currently making appointments to look around them but it's difficult to know what they are really like from a 20 minute tour.

Well out of the schools you've mentioned, I would choose Belmont - the Junior school (closely linked with the Infants) has an Outstanding Ofsted, plus results are best out of these schools.

We are off to look at LL and Belmont next week (although out of catchment for Belmont really). Friends of mine have their children at Alexandra, Head seems very nice and the kids seemed engaged and having fun. Would also be interested in any feedback anyone has. Think that Lordship will be our first choice as it's nearest to us but obviously depends on viewing next week.

Hard isn't it!

We were in a similar position last year - we're between noel park and Belmont and wanted to get into Belmont but despite being just under 0.3 miles away we didn't get a place tho we're still on the waiting list (4th, I think). So unless you're nearer than that (tho it changes slightly each year) you may not have much chance. Similar small catchment at north harringay where we also applied. My son has ended up at Harris Academy (formerly downhills) which was our fourth choice. We had lots of reservations about it - was in special measures etc then forced to become academy, which I don't really agree with. But head teacher was very determined to improve it and it recently got a good Ofsted, tho I don't know how much store you can set by them now as it's become so political.

But, most importantly it seems to be a really nice school, with lovely teachers and our son has settled in very quickly. It's also a nice walk across parks for us, which is important! We could have easily got a place at noel park too as it's our nearest school but I wasn't sure about it being so big. I never went to see Lordship Lane but have heard good things about it too and some of my son's friends go there. We decided against Alexandra mainly as they seemed to be building over half the playground when we went to see it. I think you just have to go with your gut feeling and then cross your fingers that you get one of the places you want! And all of the schools mentioned now have good ofsteds - even Belmont which went down from outstanding at its last inspection.

They are looking to expand St Mary's. Lil smeared seems to be happy so far.

I know this is an old thread but how did you all get on? My DD got into Belmont by the skin of our teeth so very happy with that. We are relatively new to the area so would be keen to meet others starting reception at Belmont this September.
