Do you ever send a child home with practice comprehension? In what circumstances would you do this? DC is not struggling BTW. Thanks.

If a child is reading well but doesn't understand what they are reading I would suggest they need to work on their comprehension rather than send "homework type tasks" Some children are good at retelling and literal interpretation but need to work on "reading between the lines" and some need to analyse why the author used different words/fonts/styles to help them read with feeling and greater meaning. So there isn't a simple answer to your question.

I agree with Mrz. If I thought their comprehension wasn't great, I'd try to improve it.

DD is in yr1 and has come home with 2 SATS papers to do over the summer (reading comprehension ones).

She doesn't struggle either.

Mrz - I was a bit Hmm about it, however DD will be in her element as she loves doing stuff like that.

But if she doesn't want to do it I'm not going to make her.

It's considered very poor practice simpson ... not sure why a school would consider it necessary especially for a child who is reading fluently.

I guess its because there is such a big gap between her reading & writing.

Her writing is good but must be holding her reading back in some way (comprehension type questions & getting the answers down on paper).

not something you learn from old SAT papers IMHO

Totally agree & the the school have been v good.

She isn't at a school that makes her do loads of SATS papers.

Not sure why she has been given them, if she wants to do them then she can & if she digs her heels in then she won't! Grin
