On the last day of term my daughter's teacher said that next term my daughter would be go into a special booster class for literacy and numeracy with the aim of getting Level 3s in all subjects for the KS1 sats. I thought Sats were teacher assessed so I can't see the point of this (my daughter is already teacher assessed at L3 for writing and reading). I wouldn't mind if he meant meant the more able kids were going to be getting extra classes from now on until they leave school but it sounds as if it the classes are just for the run up to the Sats tests. Is this normal practice these days? My son did his Y2 sats in the same school two years ago and it was all far lower key.
