Hello. We are moving to Bishop' Stortford at the end of November and I'm trying to sort out in year admissions for my DS. The nearest school is Thorn Grove which is very convenient and seems good. Any thoughts on Thorn Grove, Windhill or Richard Whittington would be much appreciated. I'm really excited about the move except about all the changes for my DS ( missing friends /moving schools) so want to make the best choice for schools. Thanks in advance.

Hiya I'm very close to stortford. Where are you moving to and how old are the children? The schools are very over subscribed xx

Thanks for replying. DS is 7 (year 3). Have checked spaces and there are some in all of these schools at the moment but know it changes all the time.

Will you be able to look round them?

All 3 you mention are good I think, my DS will hopefully be going into reception in one of them, and is at nursery there now, and he LOVES it. I think Windhill tends to have more spaces, as it historically had a poor reputation, but it has really come up in the world.

feel free to PM me for further info, as I don't want to say which he is at on here :)

There are no bad primary schools in Stortford so in that respect you are luckly to have such a good choice. A few years ago Windhill has very undersubscribed, but a new head completely turned it around and they got a very good ofsted in 2013. The head left in September to take over at Manor Fields (where my daughter goes) and her deputy head took over Windhill so I am sure she will continue with her outstanding work. Parents rave about the school now and it is now full at reception entry for the first time.

My daughter did her Nursery year at Richard Whittingham which she really enjoyed but I wasn't keen on mixed year groups so as manor fields is our nearest school so we went with that choice for reception.

I think you need to look round all three and then go with your gut as they are all good schools.

I have heard some great things about windhill recently. You cannot go wrong in any school in stortford, they are all good. Go and visit and see how you get on. Good luck with the move xx
