Football boots and shin pads in v small sizes

Please help, I'm utterly fed up.

My 4yo DTDs have just started in reception at an independent school. The uniform list includes football boots and shin pads. They are average to small summer born girls around a metre tall and with size 8/9 feet.

I cannot find football boots in less than size 10 or shin pads to fit someone of less than 3'11'' in height. School are not being particularly helpful ('the children do need them' being their reaction when I said I have had difficulty finding them) I've been told that another parent has bought boots from Decathlon which cost £5 and 'although a 10 are very small' but the only boots that look like they might be the ones are on the Decathlon website for £5.99 and advertised as rugby boots...

Has anyone bought either of these items somewhere? Preferably online as there is no way I'm going to get to the shops this week, but I may be able to bribe ask my sister to go into a real shop in London if that's the only option.

Thank you oh wise mumsnetters!

Rugby boots/football boots are the same thing if you mean the tog sort. Football ones tend to be brighter. You usually need to buy a size up anyway to leave room for the socks. The smallest size shin pads should fit, my ds and dd were both playing football at 4 and small for their age but the shin pads were ok

We bought dd's boots/shin pads from Sports Direct. You need to size up on football boots so if normally a size 9 the buy a 10. If they're going to be playing on soft ground i.e. a field, you'll need studded boots. Whatever you buy, make sure you tighten the studs on the bottom (learnt that one from experience).

Have they tried any on yet? I find football boots (for both my DS and DD) come up absurdly small, so both have always worn boots a full size bigger than their school shoes. Size 10 football boots aren't hard to find and you may find them a better fit than you think!

Thank you all, this is most helpful. tooearly what are tog sort?
I will just buy whatever I can find on SportsDirect based on yours and yetanother's advice. Thank you Patricia* - this is the sort of thing you don't know when you are doing it all for the first time.

I knew Mumsnet would know! Now why can't the school provide this kind of in the know information? Hmm

We have got shin pads in sports direct, you might need a big branch but they had tiny ones. can't help on football boots front as ours play inside mostly so have trainers.

OK, got perfect shin pads in Sports Direct. Thank you very much. But smallest size boots still far too big and also socks - feet are swimming in them. Arrggh! Need Maroon socks ideally in size 6.5 - 8.5, so would be grateful for any suggestions - then perhaps I can try two pairs of socks or something (bored with this now...)

I got tiny nike shin pads from sports direct for my 3 YO so maybe try their online shop, also bought size 9 velcro football boots, I googled to find them. They did smaller sizes also.

football and rugby boots usually come up small by at least a size. dd has been playing hockey since she was 4 and we brought shin pads from the football dept at sports direct.

I can see mums comments about not being able to find football boots under size 10cc. After hours of searching I managed to purchase a pair of astro trainers & football boots sizes 8 & 9c from //www.greavessports.com.

Could give them a try. Not much else out there.
