Bromsgrove - good schools

can anyone recommend excellent state school or independent schools in the bromsgrove area please? Ds is 6 and Dd is 3 (primary)

Bromsgrove school of course but don't discount worcester and brum- brum easily accessible by train as well as car.

Are you looking to move to Bromsgrove? Schools very much depend on catchment area particularly popular state first schools. If you want state in Bromsgrove look at Finstall First, Meadows First and Charford First Schools.
If you're looking at fee paying there's Bromsgrove School, Dodderhill (for girls in Droitwich) and the Kings schools are in Worcester.

Hi Maliha. We live in Bromsgrove and have family in Solihull, I would seriously consider Moving to Solihull if you can. Our Children go to state first school in Bromsgrove. In terms of shops etc Solihull is far better, but cost of living will be higher. You may find you spend a lot of your time travelling out of Bromsgrove to do other things. Good luck x

Bromsgrove is 3 tier so you do have to consider what school you'd like in year 5 if you're not planning another move. The first schools are quite good here. Finstall & St Peters (Catholic) have the best reputations but I know Sidemoor had an outstanding Ofsted recently. Mine went to Charford & it was very good IMO. I've had one child finish at St Johns middle (which also had an outstanding Ofsted recently) & my other 2 are there now. I think the school is fab & completely agree with the Ofsted.

No idea if it's any good, looks very small. I used to see the pupils getting on the train.

Bromsgrove School is a real private/public school with fees and facilities to match. Never been in the junior school, but main senior campus is nice.

Nice to hear Finstall first school is still doing well (I used to be Brownowl for a lot of them).

Charford is a huge council/ex council estate so, probably not the OPs taste (not mine either, I moved long before DCs were school age).

I agree not to limit your house search to Bromsgrove, there are nicer places in the area.

Don't worry, I'm not offended . I don't actually live on Charford. It has a large catchment area that includes the council estate & 2 other upper working class & middle class areas. It's something that I really like about the school: the kids are economically more diverse. I do know families on Charford of course & most are nice but there are some that aren't (like anywhere really).

I was going to talk about the private schools but my battery died. Ive heard bad things about The Bromsgrove School. Some said they really only care about the most academic kids so their stats look good. A lot also dont like the comoulsory Saturday school. I know a few people with kids there & they're happy, though one kid has turned into a complete snob since he's been there. Dodderhill is nearby but only takes boys up to a certain year (maybe year 4). RGS is the one I've heard only good things about so that would probably be the first one I looked at if I wasn't happy with the state schools. I know a few people with kids in Kings & they love it but it is for the more wealthy family iykwim.

One more thing :

As far as living in Bromsgrove; I like it here & I've lived in lots of places (including Solihull where I honestly wouldn't live again due to the snobbish attitudes of many people there). The shopping isn't brilliant but it's easy to get to a lot of places (Redditch/Worcester/Birmingham/Merry Hill) from here so that's not a problem. Housing-wise, there's a good range of areas for different budgets from Barnt Green for the nicest & most expensive to Charford as mentioned before. I've lived near much worse council estates before & I think it's only got problems in certain spots (from what I've heard anyway).

There are a number of prep schools around Bromsgrove /Worcester area. They feed to Bromsgrove, Kings School Worcester, RGS Worcester and Malvern amongst others. I would strongly recommend visiting the area and schools. The residential areas around Worcester and the surrounding are close to the motorways (40mins average commute to Brum) easy access to countryside. Ds has a lot of friends whose parents relocated to the area from London.
