Interviews for Head Boy at Primary

My DS is applying for Head Boy as his primary school. Possible interview next week (waiting on invite).

Has anyone had experience of this with their DS/DD? Can you remember any questions that were asked? Or provide any tips?

Thanks

I imagine the questions will be around why they think they will be a good role model/how they have been a role model to younger children.

Thank you for that Shootingstar. I agree that that is likely to come up.

I think they'll probably ask why he wants to be head boy and what he thinks makes him the right person for it.

At dd's school all the children that wanted to apply had to do a power point presentation and a speech in assembly last Thursday. Dd didn't want to apply but said that some of the presentations ect were good and some were not so good. But the general idea was to put across why you wanted it and why you would be good for the role.

Thank you all for your replies.

Unfortunately my DS did not get through to interview this time - very fierce competition. He was gutted! It's' the first time he has been properly rejected for something; so we had to have a meaningful conversation about rejection being a part of life and trying to make the best of what is left. I have to admit that I was a 'floored' that all applicants (6) weren't given a chance to interview. I could see how much the position meant to him last night.

I am incredibly proud that DS has picked himself up overnight and has gone into school this morning asking to interview for a Prefect position instead. It's on my mind entirely today. I keep stopping what I am doing and willing him on. I hope that the school can facilitate an interview this time.

I just don't want him to be overlooked - he is a lovely, lovely young man with a lot to give.

Sad not interviewing him seems a bit mean, I could understand if there were loads of applicants but it wouldn't of taken that long to interview 6 kids. I hope he gets the prefect interview (or even better, the prefect position)

Thank you Xihha.

The word 'mean' did come to my mind last night too. I struggled last night with the idea that getting to interview has to be such a strict business for 10 year olds. The gently asked ; but the school does not provide feedback to parents on applications - so still not sure why they turned him down.

I thought having interviews themselves (good or bad) would be a useful experience to have and discuss.

We;'ll see if the school give him a chance with the prefect position. There is no doubt in my mind that he can do it. So I will be most upset if he is turned down again

DS has now had a interview for Prefect - which he think went well. Fingers crossed, results on Friday.
