Hi there! My daughter is Primary 3 and embarking on a 'research' project on Outer Space. I lack imagination & time & I'm wondering if any of you have any ideas on how to make it exciting & interesting for her....TYIA.

There's lots of info out there about Mars Curiosity Rover, and since it's working right now it's nicely current and brand new discoveries being made. She could do something interesting on that? My DD is desperate to!

Or the Voyager mission - historical info about what it was designed for/made with (less computing power than the average 7 year old owns these days, pretty much), plus the fact that it's kept going far longer than anyone ever expected and is now at the outer limits of our solar system. It'll be the first man made object to leave our solar system, and is still sending data back about what it's finding.

Model of solar system? To scale (it would be massive though!).

Any good?

Hi jellybellyrbest:

There are some great web pages out there:

Sky at Night (still going strong on BBC): www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mk7h

Stargazing live: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b019h4g8 - also BBC with a great list of links to other websites at bottom right of opening webpage. The first episode had a lot about curiosity rover - but sadly this is no longer available on BBC iplayer.

Including link to Mars Curiosity rover here: mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/ - thre also has a curiosity kids page on the space rover: getcurious.com/curiosity-kids/ - various organisations including National Geographic sponsor this website.

NASA has webpage for kids: www.nasa.gov/audience/forkids/kidsclub/flash/index.html

European Space Agency also has a webpage for children: www.esa.int/esaKIDSen/SEMHNTRZ5BG_index_0.html

National Geographic has a video entitled solar system 101 - it's a bit dry but lots of facts: video.nationalgeographic.co.uk/video/kids/science-space-kids/solar-system-101-kids/

Of course there are also the recent Brian Cox shows (out on DVD/ Blue Ray) - Wonders of the Solar System or Wonders of the Universe.

Well that's a start at least.

HTH
