Teachers - a quick question

I've just been given dd's 'levels' at parents evening.

Are these likely to change by the end of year SATS or will these most likely be her end of year result (she's Year 5)?

Depends when your school does the assessments. Most schs assess in Jan then May, so levels change- hopefully! Depending on her progress so far, and how well she's doing, she might go up sublevel by the end of the year.

Its impossible to know. In a term (if these SATs are indeed end of year and not the same time as the year 6 sats) she may make a sublevel. But equally she may not, she may be at capcity already or she may make some progress but not enough to get a sublevel.

Without knowing your daughter or her school we cant possibly say.

Most of my year 5's have gone up a couple of sub levels or more already, it's hard to say whether they will go up any more. Some have just crept into the bottom of the next sub level so have a way to go before they get to the next one, some are nearly there already-one was one mark off the next level on a test but I'd like a bit more evidence in class before I say she is still moving up! It's a "how long is a piece of string" question!

They assessed about 3 weeks ago (begin March)

She's progressed - 2 sub levels in reading, 1 in writing and 3 in maths (so I suspect she may have peaked in maths!) since last year.
Dd is doing 11+ in Sept (boo, hiss) so we've been doing quite a bit at home with her - and will continue to until ruddy September.

I do realise it is a finger-in-the-wind question. Just wondered what your experience was? I know the summer term is often a bit heavier on the less academic side to things - sports day, school productions etc.

Yes she is at the top of 5C in writing so perhaps she might creep into 5B by the end of the summer.

Btw the reason I asked is that if she has a disaster at the 11+ and we have to make an appeal the summer SATS will be the last formal recording of her levels for the school to produce as evidence.

I sympathise over the 11+!!! My daughter showed a desire to take it so we have also been working with her at home and she has been having lessons with a tutor once a week. My DD is bright but panics when asked to write an essay so I am slightly worried. Her maths and VR are both fine but I do worry about the English! I don't think I have been given her levels from the school. I shall have to investigate!
