We've moved house and schools since last years world book day. My dds last school had a dress up day, authors in, a themed menu and they were given a small book token.
But dds new school doesn't appear to be doing anything for world book day and this really disappoints me. So is this unusual or are other school not celebrating world book day?
Our nursery asked the children to bring their favourite book in but so far the school has been quiet.
Dc's new school is doing classroom celebrations, not sure what that means, their last school did dressing up, prizes, and in class stuff.
We aren't doing anything special for World Book day
This is the first year that the primary school is doing dress up for book day. I have no idea why they've chosen to do it this year and haven't before.
Maybe they do a book week at another time in the year? It's world book day, maths day and science day on three consecutive days so they could be doing one of the others?
DS school isn't and didn't last year either. I think most of the other schools in the area are though.
Ours never seems to do WBD
they usually do something along similar lines ie. 2 years ago they had a "dress as a character from a book" but it was for a reading thing they had been doing and it wasn't anywhere near WBD. Last year they had been reading Aliens Love Underpants and they did an Aliens theme for a week. There was a spaceship on the school field and they all dressed as Aliens on the last day of term, before Easter. This year we haven't heard anything.
I've not heard anything yet. Mind you, if it's anything like last year, I will be hastily drawing some character at the nth hour, on a white t-shirt.
We aren't do dressing up, but they have a voucher and there will be books being sold after school.
Oh we gave out book tokens last week
I don't think so
I haven't heard anything anyway but I suppose it's possible that the rest of the school is doing something, and just Reception isn't?
I know that something is going on in school (an author visiting rings a bell), but they are not asking us as parents to do anything.
That seems a perfect way to do it to me!
Ds's old school did nothing but did give out book tokens. Ds's new school does and it is a nightmare. Having said that I thought it was on 7th March but ds's school isn't doing it until 14th.
I think ours are getting tokens.
No dressing up though thank god
My school is asking children to bring in a favourite story/poem about a bear, linked to curriculum.
Dd's class def not going anything. She's on a trip to London.
ours never does (Scotland), thank goodness. They got the £1 tokens sent home though
Our school makes a big deal of WBD. Tomorrow there is the bedtime story event the children come back to school in their pyjamas with a teddy and blanket if they want at 6pm to have hot chocolate (provided by the PTA) and a bedtime story at a cost of £1. On Wednesday there is a secondhand childrens books sale and then a dress up day on Thursday for which we also pay £1. All money raised is going to buy books for the library.
p.s. our school has a book fayre at the parents night that is next Thursday so maybe that is their substitute for world book day
The infant school never does anything except the book token.
The juniors has their first dress up this year, usually does nothing.
Ours never does anything apart from the tokens.
They do their own book week later in the year when they have visiting authors, workshops etc. Not usually dress-up though - we have enough of those linked to the curiculum.
DS's school isn't doing anything, DDs is though.
DD's school isn't either - she is very, very upset about it as she already had an outfit decided upon!
Ours varies year on year.
Some years they've had dress-up-as-your-favourite-book-character day etc, but not this year. Shame because the kids love it.
We're having the book tokens, a book fair, each child is bringing in a favourite book to read with a younger child. I think that's it.
Why don't you suggest some things OP on a comments form (we get given these all the time at parents evening etc)? It may be their just waiting for a creative person to suggest some stuff!
Just wanted to add, our scho have just had a lot of B list Olympic athletes in for a week of sport etc, and an OFSTED inspection so I think the school are slightly exhausted
Could your school be the same OP?
