Rubber wristbands - teachers please help!!

DD (7) was given a rubber (or silicone?) wristband today by one of her teachers. It was reddish orange and had the word determination on it.

The wristband was given in recognition of dd's perseverance in a recent situation that had she had found extremely frightening. Don't want to go into details as I might out myself, but suffice to say, the wristband meant a lot to her, and I was really grateful to the teacher for helping to turn something that had been quite traumatic for dd into something much more positive.

She was so proud of it that she continued to wear it when we went out this evening, and somehow, it must have slipped off her wrist. I wish I'd made her take it off before we left the house now!

DD is very, very upset about the loss of this wristband. I have tried to persuade her that the band was just a symbol and that the reason it was given to her hasn't gone away, but she isn't convinced. I then suggested explaining what had happened to her teacher and asking where we could buy a replacement, but she is adamant that she doesn't want to tell him because she thinks he'll be sad that she has been so careless. My own view is that if he understood how upset she is about it, he'd probably want to help but I want to respect her feelings with regard to not asking him.

I have told her that tomorrow we'll retrace our steps to look for it, but tbh I doubt we'll find it, and so I just wondered if there are any teachers out there who use these things who could point me in the direction of a supplier from whom I could perhaps purchase a replacement. It seems trivial I know, but I can see that this really is a big deal for dd, and I'd like to be able to do sometging if I can!

I would guess it was from a rewards type company catalogue. As a teacher, I would be really upset if a student felt so upset and would really appreciate the parents informing me in order to provide a replacement.

There are some wristbands that you can get from PTS (Primary Teaching Services) ... not sure if rubber though.

Explain to her teacher, asking if you can buy one from her or for the name of the company she bought them from. I'm sure she will give you a replacement if she has any left - I would if I were her!

Thanks janji. The teacher is lovely and I feel sure that he would want to help, but dd is convinced that he will be disappointed in her for not taking better care of it. :( I don't think it was her fault that she lost it really - just one of those things. With hindsight, I wish I'd made her take it off before we went out, but I wanted to let her enjoy it!

Ooh yes fuzzy, they look very similar. The determination one appears to be yellow, rather than red, but I reckon it would do as a substitute!! Thank you! :)

What are the school office staff like? If they are nice, perhaps you could discreetly ask them if there are any more wristbands in school, or for the website address, explaining the situation and your DD not wanting teacher to know... Our office manager is a lovely person and I know she would help sort out an issue like this.

I'd want to know if one of the children in my class had lost such a deserved reward and was so upset about it so that I could help. Is it possible for you to work out the teacher's school e-mail address so you could contact him direct and explain what's happened (but also explain that your DD doesn't want him to know)? They are often [email protected] e.g. [email protected]
