Hi all,

I am looking for some advice from mums with knowledge of the primary school in sale/timperley/Altrincham areas of south Manchester. We are looking to move to this area early next year and the main reason for doing so is the reputation of the schools. I would be grateful for any advice and opinions you have to offer.

Thanks in advance

Hi, we are moving to the Hale/Altrincham area in August (still have to find a house to rent!!) I have been doing a little research and have contacted the Trafford Council as I know many of the schools are oversubscribed. I was thinking of applying to Navigation Road, Willow School, Forest School and Stamford Primary. But I am looking for some first hand advice too!
Good luck with everything!
Rachael

I have knowledge of two of the schools mentioned. My child attends one of them. When I applied for schools, I was pretty happy with any in the area. Feel free to PM for more details. You are right about oversubscription though - there were a few of my daughter's friends who didn't get a place.

Majority of schools in this area are over subscribed (Esp Timperley and Altrincham) - we have fallen victim to oversubsribed within catchment this year - and have ended up in a private school this coming September...

Forest school is private :)

I also know the area. Just a couple of things to bear in mind. Trafford will only accept a 12 month tenancy as a permanent address in the area, so make sure you have this (rather than a 6 month tenancy). Generally speaking, all the schools are over-subcribed so you really need to be within catchment to get a place. It didn't happen to us, but I did hear the year before we applied of children being allocated places in Stretford as all schools in Altrincham were over-subcribed. Trafford has a booklet with the admission policy (and over-subscription policy) for each school - its worth a read.

My 3 sons are Catholics, went to St Vincents, I highly recommend but not aware of any bad schools in Hale/Altrincham.

This is the Trafford admission policy that Mandy mentions.

HI ALL,

I am new in this area. I want to know which is the best primary school in Timperley. Is it ST HUGHES or PARK ROAD ACADEMY? According to Ofsted ST HUGHES is outstanding and number 2 position in this area but Park ROAD is only outstanding. But I donot know about the 11+ result of this two school. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

This sounds discriminatory and hopefully unenforceable - IME most estate agents have a policy of only 6 month tenancies for their managed properties and a new landlord might be rightly wary of a longer tenancy straight away. Assuming you rent in general and just move from one rental to another, what more can you do? That's how permanent your home ever is.

Hi, Does anyone have children currently at St Vincent's Nursery or Primary, Altrincham? Would be really interested to know your thoughts re teaching/ethos/facilities etc. I believe they are getting, or already have, a new Head - is this right? Thanks.
