Some of you have been following DDs story for a while, and it's her 9th birthday this week so I thought it was time for an update.
She's doing really well!
The big change is we've gone to Tinsley House - and it has been absolutely amazing.
In Sep her reading was a NC L1. She could hardly read at all. (Despite the fact that in July they'd told me her reading was a L2)
Now, in Jan, her reading is a L3! (So over 2 years progress in 3 months) She's reading far, far better. Still not fully fluent or independent. But well on her way.
Her spelling is still very poor, but again far far better than it was. She's using vowels now
I can't read what she writes yet - but I can read far more of it than I could in Sep.
Her memory problems are gone. She can now learn new words.
And most intriguingly she now feels anger and sadness! Previously she was happy all the time.
This has the knock on effect that she's now unhappy that she's bottom of the class. But I think that's far better than being oblivious to the fact.
Her dyslexia isn't quite cured yet. But we are well on the way, and there is every reason to believe in a few more months it will be cured.

Interesting.
Bet you miss the happy girl though.
She misses being the happy girl.
She's upset that she gets angry. It's a totally new experience for her.
She now walks out of class twice a day upset because she gets so frustrated that she can't write.
Whereas previously she was totally oblivious to the fact she couldn't spell well enough for anyone to read her work. As she couldn't read And no one told her she couldn't write - she genuinely didn't know
Of course I'd rather she was happy. But being happy all the time wasn't right.
And soon she'll learn how to write and then she won't get frustrated.
In order to really feel happy, I think you have to experience the opposite.
I certainly wouldn't rather she was happy and illiterate.

I've read your posts before - it's so good to hear your DD has made progress. She's lucky to have a mother that will move mountains to get her literate. L3 is great, compared to a year ago - that's pretty close to age appropriate isn't it?

But at the rate of progress that she is making she will soon not be the bottom of the class and each step forward is a major plus and something to be applauded. Well done to Tinsley House and to you indigobell
That's fantastic, well done to both of you.
