Reception - how often are books changed at your school?

Just out of interest?

And before I get roasted alive, I do know that it doesn't matter and we can get them out of the library. But I'm starting to have issues with the lack of initiative and, well, any kind of trying at DD's school. I think the infrequency of book changing is one symptom of this, but want to make sure my expectations are not unreasonable.

To give you an idea, they are supposed to be changed every week, but our record so far is 2.5 weeks.

Ours are changed as soon as the book is finished so we get up to 5 a week.

daily grin And he's heard by an adult at school every time before the book is changed.

daily, as long as dd2 remembers to put her book bag in the tray. she is heard by her class teacher each day, too.

extra library book comes home on Fridays for discussion and sharing.

Dd1 gets a new scheme reading book every 1-3 days, depending on what else is going on. i think she reads to the TA before getting a new book. Library books are changed on Fridays. If i remember to send them in.

twice a week here though its only been once so far this week but i think its because they are saving the new one for half term.......

Twice a week - having set book changing days helps ensure that we remember to bring DD's book back. However we have had issues with DD bringing home the wrong level books, no home-school diary, only doing group guided reading sessions once a week and 1 to 1 reading once each half term.

Reading book changed every day once it's been read at home or school and library book every Wednesday

Twice a week here too.

Right, so things are a bit worse here than I expected. Thank you for that, everyone. I think I might be starting a new thread on how to persuade a school to up their game one of these days. Any ideas?

Once a week here. But we read at home every day- if he wants to which he does at the moment (phew) as I think it's important. Just I will need to tell his teacher that we have covered a whole set of books that she may be about to give him. Don't think she'll mind- they are easy phonics ones, she can just go onto different ones with him grin. Have been impressed with the attention given when she does hear him read but this is just once a week at the moment.

Book is changed as soon as I have written in the reading diary that it is finished. Except on Wednesdays which is school library day so DS gets to bring home a book from there to keep for a week.

Ours usually daily, BUT, it relies on parent helpers going in and helping listen to reading and changing the books. I go in once a week and at least 4 other parents do too. They have to have read each book to someone at school and once at home before they are changed.

My advice would be to offer to go in and help smile

We have a book trolley and we access it ourselves and write in the book to say that we have changed from book x to book y on z date.
If we haven't changed it in a fortnight we get a little note to say they noticed and we should change it.

Daily reading book except Wednesdays where dd chooses a book from the school library.

DickSwivellersTidyWife Thu 09-Feb-12 20:15:55

Once a week here. DD is usually reciting it by memory long before it gets changed. Although she has 2 this week for the holiday - we have an inset day tomorrow.

Whenever we send the reading book back with a comment in it, we get a new book home. Usually 3 or 4 times a week.

Daily ( or when finished the book). The children change their books when they come into the classroom. They know what colour band box to get it from and choose independently.
They are heard at least 1 x a week by a teacher / teaching assistant and moved up a book band when they feel the child is ready.

ShowOfUmblestAnds Thu 09-Feb-12 20:24:19

Monday, Wednesday and Friday while still on the reading scheme. As often as they like and as many as they like (within reason) once they're reading confidently.

DontNickMyMilk Thu 09-Feb-12 20:25:47

Books they are supposed to read, about twice a week. Library book for us to read with them, once a week.

GetDownNesbitt Thu 09-Feb-12 21:59:27

Twice a week
