CRB checks and soft data

My DH wants to change careers and be a primary teacher but he is a bit worried about the CRB thing. The only thing he is known to police for is having been stopped recently for 'suspicious behaviour'. It was in the vicinity of a school where he was waiting for a different reason, but due to a mental condition he is working hard to overcome (hence can't teach just now) looked a bit funny at the kids and someone on paedo alert called the police. They searched him and found nothing suspicious, questioned him and had no evidence he was a threat, just took his details and loigged him as 'suspicious' presumably as another innocent event would put 2 and 2 together (in their eyes). Is this likely to appear on a CRB even though it was completely innocent? If my DDs had a teacher stopped for this it really wouldn't bother me.

I know a few people [who just happen to be computer nerds] who have been just minding their own business eg eating sandwich at side of play ground staring into space and have been accused of looking like paedophiles. Completely innocent and only members of public saying 'oi are you a paedo'.. not police. I feel sad for the guys as totally upset by experience and not perving just in own little world.
I have no good advice but hope all goes well for your dh.

Yes, it could appear on the soft data section of the CRB - and your DH wouldn't necessarily be aware of this, as the applicant doesn't see the info in this section, only the organisation asking for the CRB.

Thanks both. I don't see how he wouldn't know the info as he would have to be told he was being refused a job based on his CRB even without the specifics.

I also don't get the computer nerd connection, and I don't consider him one at all.

Oh sorry to cause confusion. I think my computer nerd friends just look in their own world sometimes.. deep thought maybe. It just seems that this few I know have been misunderstood. [The incidents are different people. They all discussed the awful accusations at a party I was at].
Poor guy accused at play ground was only there as only green space near his work.
Didn't mean to be offensive to computer people either. I'll shut up now!!

Gosh I have dug a hole for myself! Sorry, sorry...

No offence taken. But he wants to know if it would stop him getting a job as he really was never at fault. Just an overzealous member of the public and police fulfilling their duty to respond and record their work.

There must be some way to check what is on the soft data section of CRB.
If your DH could find out what it is maybe there might be some way of 'neutralising' damage -for want of a better expression.
There may be room for discussion with teacher training colleges. As you say he was innocent and did not commit an offence.
Obviously you need to know if anything is flagged up as you don't want to flag an issue up if isn't on his CRB result.

Whether the applicant gets to see what is on the "soft data" section is entirely up to the police who supply the content. If they don't want the applicant to see it there is no way of finding out.

I would recommend that he is honest and open about it. It will look far worse if he doesn't declare it and it does turn up on his CRB check.
