just wanted to canvas opinions on an idea

i work part time as a primary teacher, and have a 5 year old dd who is increasingly indep, so am considering doing some tutoring to up my income

what would you be willing to pay an hour for tutoring? (am in south east)

would you want tutoring in your own home or would you want to take your child to the tutors home?

What sort of things do people want tutoring for? I have experience of preparing children for Sat's, and have knowledge of the 11 plus but also was thinking of offering one to one reading/phonics/basic skills tutoring?

Would many parents be intrested in this do you think?

I tutor primary, charge £20 an hour (but I'm not in the South East). I go to pupils' houses (mainly because I'd have to tidy up to have them come here!) but found I needed to limit the area I worked in or I'd be spending all my life in the car if I took every enquiry I got.

I offer English and Maths - tend to get enquiries from about Y4 kids onwards, lots more for Y6 after the first Maths homework of the year comes home and invokes panic (in both the kids and parents when they can't do them). Tends to be the younger kids having bother with English, older kids about a 50/50 split between Maths and English. I don't do 11 plus because I don't live in an 11+ area, I've done private school entrance exam prep in a previous job but don't like to offer it now because it's not the type of tutoring I enjoy... basically I do it for the enjoyment and a spot of pin money these days.

I'd block out a couple of evenings to do it and try to get a couple of kids on those nights - otherwise you can tend to find that you have every single evening cut into the middle of and it felt to me like I was ALWAYS about to go out, or just in from going out - so when I set it that I had slots on Mon/Tues/Wed - it made it a load easier for me if that makes any sense.
