Can you tell me a little about him? I am looking ayt his work with my playgroup...I know a bit about him i.e he was a heavy drinker etc but not a lot about him that I can tell the can tell the children

Well, the main thing about Pollock was that he took big buckets of paint and splattered them freely at his canvas. Are you sure this is the kind of thing you want to be encouraging in your playgroup? Will you be doing the cleaning up?

I am planning to do a large peice of art in the outside area, I know it will be a slightly mad session but never mind :o

Not sure what you can tell them about Pollock biographically. Warn them about the dangers of drinking and driving?

He studied classical drawing but he worked as a mural painter. Eventually he could afford his own studio and where he did his dripping, pouring, splattering etc on huge canvases on the floor. Good luck with your playgroup - the children will love it, good idea to do it outside though!

He did start doing more "life" painting later in his career and he married another famous artist (can't remember her name). The children might be interested in that. Probably not - sure they'd rather just get to work!!

Use some images of him painting, riding a bike over the canvas or dribbling with a bucket full of paint and holes.
He wanted to experiment, preschool are very good at that.

Don't show them the Ed Harris biopic. You might get parents' letters. IRL he was an arsehole - killed himself and a young girl while driving drunk. Artistically a great innovator though - young kids would love using his techniques. I think there might be some interviews and footage on YouTube?

DS2 did this in Y1. He had such a fabulous time - they all did! I"m not certain they learnt anything about him as a person but they did enjoy doing the splatter painting.

In fact, they loved it so much, I gave them 4 small canvasses stuck together, some pots of runny paint and let them create artwork for our house. Looks fab. However, this is an outdoor activity and not recommend for the kitchen. Trust me.
