Cubs, Collectors Badge: CAN he do 'Force Attax' cards??

Sorry, in 'Primary education' and all!

DS2's Cubs are working towards the above badge. You have to, amongst other things, take in your collection of whatever and 'be prepared to talk about it', then at a later date, bring in the enlarged collection as you've added to it.

Me, coming over all middle class, suggested his static, non-growing collection of crystals/rocks but the simple fact is, he is far more interested in his Force Attax, collects them avidly, does extra chores to earn pocket money to buy them, trades with enthusiasm and has a sure and definite hierarchy in his display. To me this does demonstrate the spirit of the badge, BUT- if you were Akela, would you expect stamps, coins and fossils in 2011?

What a good idea, I'm going to suggest my son tries the same. He's just joined cubs for the second time and I'd like him to start working towards badges so he keeps his interest up.
As for Akela's approval, I think it's an appropriate collection to suggest - I know from experience that Force Attax are certainly a subject they can talk at length about and have had to sit through many lectures myselfSmile
My own collector's badge years ago was gained with a cardboard box of rubbers.

I'm not an Akela, but dh is a Cub Leader. He says that the right collection is one that enthuses the Cub. The effort that the Cub puts into the collection, the way it is developed, and the learning that the Cub gains are what matter.

Mini-erebus's Attax cards tick all these boxes.

You are having an attack of MCS (middle class snobbery) Wink

As a cub leader, I would be really impressed if a cub brought in a collection & enthused about it & they would definitely pass that part of the badge. It doesn't matter what the collection is as long as they're excited about it.
