Hi All,

Our DD will be sitting some assessments for schools in the South East in Feb/March. She is currently 8 years old (Birthday is 20.12.02) and would be joining year 4 in September.

Will it be the 7+ assessments that she will sit or will there be one that is specific for year 4?

Also can anyone tell me where is best to buy past papers from? I feel we are very under-prepared for this and am worried DD won't do too well in the assessments. DD is bright (not outstanding but does do well) but hasn't had much exposure to "exams".

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

You can buy suitable maths and literacy books from WHSmith. Bond series good. They have answers too. Try the 7to8 first and then work up to the 8to9 as she gains confidence. Give lots of stickers for progress and praise.

I would chat up a parent (or a few parents) at the schools you're interested in, and find out what their children have done thus far. If they're preps, they start 'preparing' them for CE very, very early. Failing that, I'd ask the school for some idea of what to expect. Good luck!

7+ is for entry into year 3 and 8+ into year 4.

DD did her scholarship to Year 4 exams last Saturday.

I don't know the full details but she reported they did two multiple choice papers on maths, two on English and then had to write a story filling a page of A4.

Said it was nothing that she hadn't already learned at school which was good as we'd not prepped her at all.
