My Yr2 is giving up on reading - what to do?

the teacher thinks she is just getting interested in other things but reading at home is becoming a huge battleground - she is just not interested. She's been doing so well until now - just feel she's regressed since start of new school year - but she seems very happy with school.

If the teacher isn't worried neither would I be - I'd just take the pressure off, see if she wants to go back to trusted old favourites and take things as they come for a while. If you try and force the issue, you could really turn her off and set yourself up for all kinds of problems.

Maybe have a word with the teacher about possible strategies for making reading enjoyable for her, perhaps in the context of her new-found interests, once you find out what those are?

Oh don't pancic! She's not giving up..she's young. They have all kinds of ups and downs. My own DD is in year two and finds the school reading books very boring.

I decided to take the pressure off and buy her plenty of books I knew she would love and which I read to her...she still adores fiction...but those school books..YAWN!

Get yours some new books from Amazon...mine loves The Worst With and Horrid Henry....at night I have seen her trying to read them when she thinks I'm not looking!
