can anybody recommend a good poetry book for my 6 year old dd. We have been reading the Flower Fairies poetry and she loves it...
She went to bed trying to write her own, bless her!

The Monsters' Guide to Choosing a Pet by Roger McGough and Brian Patten is a fantastic poetry book for children.

My 6 year old son loves it, we've been reading it together tonight.

My 6 year old DD laughs out loud at many of Spike Milligan's.

Colin McNaughton, such as "Who's been sleeping in my porridge?"

Michael Rosen is great, esp. live if you get the chance.

My dd liked Clare Bevan's "mermaid poems" although it was in the middle of a 4-yr-long obsessive mermaid period!

Ah TP - I LOVED those books too, and used to make up tunes for them. :)

Please Mrs Butler is always a good bet.

Ogden Nash's Zoo is good - might be worth checking for rudeness but I don't think there is any.

"I like the baby giant panda, I'd welcome one on my veranda" - excellent.

This looks nice.

Quite old fashioned but RL Stevenson 'A Child's Garden of Verses' has some nice ones in.

Trubshawe, I second Michael Rosen live - my dds (7 & 4) were in stitches. Think he has a new poetry book out as well, not sure of name.
