There aren't any parent helpers in my DD's school.

In DS1's infant school parents were encouraged to come in and help.

In DD's school though, (she's in Y1) parents never go into help in the class room. (Two mums do seem to run the library, though)

I'd really like to go in and help out, but would the head think I'm weird? Maybe they find parents more of a hinderence than a help?

I think you could just ask for a meeting with the headteacher and ask her what (a) the school's policy is on parent helpers, and why (b) she would be willing to have you do, if anything.

I think if you dropped a note into school expressing an interest absolutely nobody would think you were weird at all.

They might be a bit disconcerted if you asked for a meeting to see the head teacher and wanted to see their policy! Am a bit by that one.

I would just ask your dd's teacher if there is anything you could help with in school. They will probably ask you complete CRB forms, but I expect that they will be delighted with extra help.

Just ask the teacher, and usually they bite your hand off. Also, once other parents see you doing it, you may find others also volunteer.

There are no parent helpers at dds school, she is in P2 (aged 5). There were no parent helpers when I was in school (many many many years ago). Funnily enough I had never heard of parent helpers actually in the school until I started to read these topics in MN .

Our school is happy for parents to volunteer to help in the gardens, scenery etc when needed but parents dont help out in class apart from the very odd trip. I quite like it that way.

We don't have any but they're not discouraged. They just don't want to. ;) Ask your child's teacher.
