dd1 recently got a score of level 8 on the EYFS scale for reading, numeracy and understanding, and a 7 for writing at the end of her reception year of school. what is average on this for a five and a half year old please?

8 means that they've met all the Foundation Stage expectations and 9 means they're working consistently beyond expectations. So 8 is very good for the end of Reception, but children who are working well ahead of the goals will get 9.

I am sure I have read on here before that scores of 6 are average.
