DS's maths homework - it's fab but it's driving me mad!

Giving every letter of the alphabet a numerical value with A=1, B=2 etc until Z=26, try to find a word that adds up to 100.

If you do know a word, please don't tell me it as although it's driving me mad, I am enjoying myself and not raiding the biscuit tin Smile.

But if you write me an excel formula to do the calculation for me I would be grateful as my brain hurts from all this adding up!

Is ds enjoying it, or just you? Grin

he's in bed now. We were both doing it earlier on but I've not been able to let it go. I'm please to say though that I've found one word now! I'll be able to sleep tonight after all.

I did use excel to work it out trial and error though Smile

All you needed to do was write a series of numbers (1-26) in columns A-Z in excel, in row 1.

Then type, for example, "=sum(w1,o1,r1,d1)" It would give you the total (60). Then you can start fiddling by using longer words, and working out what sort of figure you need to make it up.

I started with the plural of the word I found, then realised that changing it to past tense reduced it to 100.

oh, you have a different word to me then Lougie as mine ends in 'ing'.

And I got mine the hard way but at least it showed i hadn't lost my ability to do mental maths.
So, you tell me yours and I'll tell you mine!

'writing'

I'm about to upset DS by telling him I know three words now and he still doesn't know any. Let's see if that gets his brain going before football.

I cant quite bring myself to look at the list Lougle - it will spoil it somehow Grin
