Hi, I am posting for the first time and am the father of a boy who is due to start school in Sept 2011. I was wondering therefore if anyone has any thoughts, both good or bad, on the following Primary Schools

As follows:
Jubilee Primary School
William Pattern Primary School
Grasmere Primary School
Grazebrook Primary School
Tyseen Primary School
Bonner Primary School
Coleridge Primary School
Holy Trinity & Saint Silas Primary School

Thankyou and I look forward to your comments

Can't help, as I don't have a child at any, but I do know a bit about Hackney, and would guess you're casting your net a bit wide. For example to get into your first four on the list you have to live very, very close (ie a few hundred yards away). That might be true of the others too, but I don't know them. Might be worth looking at the Learning Trust website and seeing which schools you have a strong chance of getting into before you set your heart on something improbable. Good luck though.

Thankyou for your advice. The closet ones are William Pattern and Grazmere. There is a good chance that my son could get into Tyseen aswell. Again, any comments welcome, thankyou

My DS went to William Pattern up to a couple of years ago and I was not happy at all. They did not respond to my complaints about bullying and closed ranks when I raised the issue with the governors. I found the teaching to be variable tbh and I feel that many pupils coast as many parents use additional tutoring for their children which hides the bad quality of some of the teaching.

I've heard good things about Grazebook - i think it has improved alot and you will probably have more chance of getting in here as not overly subscribed (but could become)
Betty Layward and Grazmere are often spoken about as well as william patten but i think you would have to be within the area under 0.5 to get them in there as alot of people would try and get their children into these three. Grazmere is lovely and small ....
havnt heard of the otehrs.

Meant to add, most of these schools will have christmas fairs over the weekends ... this would be a good time to go along, see the school, mix of parents and children in a relaxed way .....

My dd is in yr 1 at William Patten and loves it....it has a vrey tight catchment area. I have friends with children in Jubilee, grazbrook, betty laward and grasemere - all seem very happy

I used to live round there (moved a couple of years ago, so my info may be out of date).

The catchment areas for all schools in N16 are miniscule.

Most people we knew sent their children to William Patten, St Mary's on Church St or Grazebrook. All seemed very happy with them. We looked at William Patten before we moved (it was closest to your house) and while it seemed a nice and friendly school, it didn't seem very academic. It was quite laid back and arty, and our son is a maths/science nerd, so I doubt it would've suited him.

Betty Layward was new when we lived in Stokie and had a good rep at first, but I have heard mixed reviews about the teaching and leadership there more recently.

Def worth looking at all of them yourself, though. It's amazing how a snoop around a place and a chance to meet the Head can change your views.
