My dc starts at Primary school next week and as I got offered a late place it has been a mad frantic rush trying to get organised and get uniform etc together anyway the one thing im struggling with and thsi might seem silly is that, "To keep the carpets nice" they have oudoor shoes and indoor shoes, this is a new concept to me the outdoor ones are your school shoes and indoor ones are anything thats going to be comfy as there going to be in them most of the time which after £33 spent on school shoes that will be grown out of after 2 minutes im now having to fork our for some more so as you can imagine these need to be fairly cheap to keep costs down i have been told they can wear slippers but i dunno if they would offer enough support ideas please??? also can you send them for the first couple of weeks with something from home as a comfort like a special teddy with some of my perfume on only I know her nursery didnt like you to take toys in so they didnt fight over or loose them, Its probably more of a comfort to me than her tbh just think it would be something familiar as she know nobody in her class and has only seen her teacher once for 10 minutes or so, ideas please thanks

A lot of schools wear plimsolls all day
cheaper option
I wouldn't bother with a teddy
good luck!

Thanks, Didnt think of that probably the best option.
Your probably right about the teddy and im just being overly mothering and unaccepting of the fact shes actually going to school as isnt a baby anymore :-( sure she will be fine

dd had plimsolls for the first 2 years and now I send her with trainers (for indoor use) as the plimsolls dont last as long.

We have the indoor/outdoor shoe thing at dd's school, we are a rural school so makes sense, quite a few of us get to school over fields or through the woods so mud is a big problem! My dd started last year and we went for plimsolls, as she was going to be in them all day I went for the £9 clarks ones as they are so much better made then the £1.99 ones you can get, dd has slow growing feet and hers lasted her whole first year, they were getting a bit tatty and had a few paint sploshes on them by July and went in the bin on the last day of term but they did a really good job, we have gone for the same again this year.
A teddy I wouldn't recommend, too much scope for it getting damaged or lost and possible problems in the class room, there is so much going on in the class room that it really isn't necessary to have something from home, just keep her going quite low key, wave her off with a smile then go home and cry if you wish putting the smile back on for home time, she will be fine!

I wouldn't bother with a teddy unless the school suggests it - our ds2's school has asked everyone to bring their favourite teddy in with them on their first day.

my daughter takes a photo of her teddy in her bag...lots of schools dont like children to take toys in but a photo in their bag can just be enough to offer a bit of comfort!

can you imagine 30 kids all with scented teddies...?

I remember my mum gave me a small family photo from a holiday for comfort. It was hidden in my pencil case so I could look at it without making a big show.
