Moving from Scotland to England - help please!

Hi all,

We are planning to move from Scotland to England. My daughter was born in December 2002 and I'm a bit confused about which school year she would go into in England.

Could anyone let me know, if she was going to an English Primary School this September, which year would she be going into?

Any help gratefully accepted!

You start in the Sept after you turn 4 (even if your 4th b'day is 31st August). Start in reception, then y1, y2 etc.

We're actually in Scotland, but about to move south again too.

Thanks midnight express and lollyheart. I was getting a bit mixed up!

That sounds good actually as she is one of the youngest in her class here in Scotland as I think the cut off here is February but if it's August in England she might be more in the middle with regards to birthdays which would be nice. Does that sound right to you? She would much rather not be the youngest in her class!

Dreading having to move schools....thanks for your quick replies! I've just discovered Mumsnet (behind the times I know!)

Yes. Ds1 and ds2 are both winter babies (Nov and Jan) and will go from being at the younger end to being among the oldest, which I'm quite pleased about.

Welcome to MN anyway. When are you moving? DS1 starts in p1 on Monday and our flat went on the market yesterday - awful timing Confused

Sorry for the delay...computer taken over by husband for a while!

I'm pleased at the thought of our daughter being at the older end of the age group too! Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks like this!

We are likely to move next summer, it's not set in stone yet but pretty inevitable and I'm trying to be as organised as possible!

That's a shame about the timing for DS1 but to be honest, when they are so little at least they have not made loads of firm friends yet. I am sure when you move your DS will settle into the new school just fine Smile
