I bought balck shoes for my DS. Did I need to buy them?

I have noticed that my DS school uniform policy does not mention anything about shoes. I ordered nice black shoes from Amazon and now I think whether I did the right thing. May be wearing trainers would have been more comfortable than shoes. May be the pupils will not need formal shoes in the foundation year.

Dont think trainers would go down well with school, you've done the right thing buying shoes.

Black shoes entirely appropriate.
Most schools dislike trainers except for P.E.

Oh, thanks. He likes them and it looks as he could use them in winter as well. May be. These are the shoes www.amazon.co.uk/Geox-Youth-J93E6Q-Trainer-J93E6Q43C9999/dp/B001W020M8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=shoes&qid=1281364753&sr=8-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Today, I have read on netmums where to buy shoes for school. www.amazon.co.uk/s?ie=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=shoes&field-keywords=STEP2WO%20School&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

The boys shoes look almost the same as Geox but not on sale.

I bought them because I thought that you will not buy shoes for £27.00 even in Clarks. Kids shoes can be quite expensive.

Our school is relaxed about shoes, the prospectus just says sensible shoes. But trainers aren't acceptable, so I doubt they will be acceptable in many schools. DD does have red shoes, but a lot of the girls have black, they are easier to keep looking nice as black polish covers better than other colours.

Those are fine. Will bear it in mind when ds suddenly decides he's outgrown his - bought in June

DD's school shoes are also from Amazon :) TkMaxx have a lot of school shoes in at the moment.

We only have Clarks here and they just don't fit DD's feet well, I'm better at fitting DD's feet than they are.

I decided to buy Geox because DS has Geox trainers. Charles Clincard often has nice Geox shoes/sandals/trainers on sale. They are breathable and orthopedic. This time I just let myself one night to think whether to buy him new trainers or not and the next day his size was out of stock. I still have not bought plimsoles for PE. M&S look nice.

Are Geox really breathable? DD gets really hot in trainers usually, but she needs them for badminton, I had wondered whether it would be worth buying Geox, but they are expensive if DD decides they still make her feet hot.

The soles have small ventilation holes and leather insole and linings. ds had several pairs of Geox (mainly at sale prices!). Not sure they are really any better than other brands for sport though.

I cannot compare them to the other brands as we have had only two pairs of trainers.

It depends how keen you are to please the school, and for your child to fit in.

If those things don't particularly bother you, then just make sure that you have seen the actual original uniform policy - ask the school to confirm it in writing - and ensure you adhere to that.
