School uniforms with logos. What to buy and how many ?

I have got my son t-shirts and 2 sweatshirts without a school logo as the school sells them with and without the logo.

This is what they sell with the logo:

  • Polar fleece, £13.50
  • Sweatshirt £8.50
  • Polo shirt £7.50
  • T-shirt £5.00

I bought sweatshirts and polo shirts from Asda, white t-shirts for PE from M&S. Everything is 100% cotton. The things above are not made from cotton.

Now I do not know what to buy with the school logo. A fleece top is probably a good thing to have. Would it be enough to please the school. The latter does not indicate what to buy. But I also want my son to feel comfortable, not an outsider.

Our children tend to have a logo fleece and sweatshirt/cardigan, everything else is usually plain ( although some "posh" parents buy logo polo shirts!)

The dress code is comprised of any of the following:

sweatshirts, sweatcardis or fleeces,
polo shirts,
Plain white shirts,

I just buy the sweatshirts with the polos. We have 3 to keep us going. Mind you, ours are only £6.50.

We buy sweatshirts with logos, and everything else is plain.

Do you have to get something with logo on?
I don't buy any school uniform with logo on as it is just too expensive. We do have a couple of school logo jumpers from charity shops/2nd hand uniform sale.

They say it should be anything from but I want to buy something with logo, may be just the fleece.

I just buy the Sweatshirt and a PE top for DS and things like polo shirts from where ever.

For DD it's just a school jumper as they are supposed to wear the ones with a logo which are £20 a shot and fall to pieces, complete rip off. A very kind friend has found someone who will embroider the logo onto a plain jumper so I am doing that this year, fed up with the complete rip off.

I have a couple of sweatshirts with logo on for ds and a couple without. Have never got fleece or polo shirts with logo.

We moved recently and was very pleased to get logo sweatshirts in second hand sale

DD starts school in September - I have got her plain cardigans as I prefer them. Neighbour has said she has some cardigans her DD had so am hopeful of getting them as well.

So, are sweatshirts more practical than the fleece tops ot it is because of the price? May be it is better indeed to get a sweatshirt to have a room for his winter jacket. They are expensive and not even from cotton. I am sure they are no better than from Asda or M&S.

They brought in fleece tops at DS's old school - I think they were only meant to be worn outside so as light coat type thing in spring and autumn.

The fleece tops are meant as coats at my DC's school too.

And where do you buy PE bags or for the books? I have checked on the Amazon simple PE bag and the price is no different.

I now see that many parents do not buy that many things with the school logo and that is why I wonder whether I should find bags somewhere cheaper.

I got book bag and pe bag from school - remember having a different (and home made) one at school
and hating it.

Just get sweatshirts with the logo.

Our school also sold logo-ed (but cheap) PE bags and I bought one of those too. I'm sure I've bought one from WH SMith at one time, though.

I buy:

5 x logo sweatshirts
1 x logo fleece
0 x logo polo
2 x logo T-shirt (for P.E.?)

then from Next

5 x trousers
2 x 3 plain polos
2 x 5 plain socks
2 x jogging bottoms
2 x shorts for PE

Then, in the summer, 3 x uniform shorts

I have a messy son and I only do washing once a week!

I would definitely get the logo bookbag, your own choice of school bag and a personalised PE bag (eBay have some fab ones).

We have 2 logo sweatshirts, a logo PE T-shirt and 2 logo coats (one for Summer, one for Winter), we have plain cardis, because the logo ones are icky and plain polos because I only wash uniform once a week and refuse to buy 5 logo ones. DD was only bothered about having logoed sweatshirts and a coat. Oh and she's currently campaigning for a logo bookbag, in fairness she is the only one in her class without an official one, but ours is much better with a proper strap etc.

We have a personalised PE bag (Ebay), the school doesn't do logo ones and a Charlie and Lola welly bag (we have to have a pair of welllies in school all the time).

I have ordered a PE bag from BagBase at Amazon for £1.89 plus delivery £1.75. Our school PE bag is £4.20, so I thought it is better to buy something different and it is also cheaper. I cannot paste in the link, something is wrong with the keyboard.

My son goes in 3 days a week and I got;

3 x Logo Polo - summer
3 x Logo shirt - winter
3 x logo Jumper - winter
1 x gym logo polo
1 x gym logo jumper
1 x logo school jacket

3 x Tesco value trousers
3 x M&S shorts
1 x BHS Navy joggers

My son is messy and sweats so he wears new stuff everyday and washes are done at weekends. Basically I bought logo stuff for everything I had to, but then got plain trousers/shorts etc for everything else.

Lumboo, my schools sells clothes which are not 100% cotton. Some people sweat a lot from wearing synthetic materials. M&S and GAP sell very nice cotton trousers, Tesco sells fairtrade cotton trousers. I think that a child should wear next to skin something natural. Try for change; you wil see that it might help to reduce his sweat.

Hi Octavia, thanks for your reply. He does wear cotton stuff, but still sweats (not excessively, but enough for me to want him in fresh clothes) - I think during nap times are when he does, but these will be cut out in September. He also gets clothes messy every day - which is what being a child is all about really, so it doesn't bother me.

His school uniform is 100% cotton for the polo shirts and shirt, and I think for their trousers too, but at £13 per pair, I find it far too expensive (he is only 3!)
I think the trousers from Tesco I bought are synthetic, but bottoms are not as much of a problem

He is only 3? ALmost a baby

GAP trousers are expensive indeed but M&S cost £7.00 and they are long enough to wear for two years; I hope they can last that long.

Bottoms can heat the groin area which is not good for the boys. Their things have to be kept "cool" and ventilated As for girls synthetic bottoms can give candida. This is just my opinion. Do not take it personally ;)

Boys bits are too complicated for me but my husband seemed approve of the Tesco purchase, although I suspect he was more interested in getting to the DIY before closing!

I will check tonight on the material, but thanks for the advice. Always appreciated!
