Should i be worried about his foreskin?

My DS is 11.5 and he still has a very tight foreskin that pretty much covers the end of his Willy. I don't think he has ever tried to pull it back and I've been happy to leave it well alone till now as he's never had any uti's or discomfort. I am beginning to worry though that it could impede its proper growth if left indefinitely. The tip is noticeably narrower than the shaft. Does anyone know if there are any procedures that loosen the skin without removing it? My husband is circumcised (for medical reasons) and I would prefer DS to remain as intact as possible, to preserve sensation. Also,if it was going to sort itself out, wouldn't it have happened by now?

if you have concerns then surely seeing a gp would be the step to take?

have you asked him if he has tried pulling it back? You could tell him to do it gently while in the bath/shower. It is not abnormal for it not to retract at this age and some can't until after puberty.

www.kidshealth.org.nz/foreskin-care - also says it should occur by the age of 18

I think they all cover the end of the willy and are narrower at the end. I'm including adult ones too.
You just need to ask if it retracts.

Has he not always pulled it back in the shower/bath to clean underneath?????

dementedpixie · 27/01/2015 14:54

You can only pull it back and clean under it if it has detached enough to do so. It is still within normal range not to retract though but you can still ask him if it does/doesn't

My DS is 10 and he has very tight foreskin which fully covers the end of his willy, he recently complained of a stinging pain in this area so I asked him to try and retract his foreskin, he doesn't seem to be able to yet. I think it's just normal so I wouldn't worry.

Hmm. I have untreated phimosis (tight foreskin), and it's caused me a few sexual problems and the occasional embarrassment. My son would have had it, but it was diagnosed and he was circumcised fairly young because of it (aged about 4).

IANAD, but I'd suggest seeing one (a doctor) to get a proper diagnosis.

Oh, and if nothing else, shouldn't he be pulling it back in the bath to clean properly?
