Which bike - bmx or mountain?

Ds 12 having a new bike. He's 5' and has had a bmx since age 8. However it seems all bmx's are the same wheel size as his existing one. But bmx are cooler than mountain bikes?

Which is best - he 'll use it for going to school and just around the estate.

What does he want fedup? Dd3 has a mountain bike for proper bike rides but we also have a cheap BMX that we take camping with us. She probably rides both equally.

I think I would ask him if I were you, it could save you a lot of money and hassle.

Don't compare wheel sizes between the bikes as they are totally different sizes for design / use reason.
Get him what he wants. If it's a BMX make sure it's a light weight frame otherwise he won't be able to use it properly.

Dd 11 prefers her BMX over her inherited mountain bike! Lightweight BMX is good choice. Has he got a preference?
