DD wants a dog...we cant have one

My DD wants a dog, has done for a long time but I just cant afford one and dont have space for one (three cats, gerbil, rat, guinnea pig and 2 DCs).

I have a friend who she can go to and walk her dogs on a saturday morning but I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas that will allow DD to be around dogs more and feed this need that she has about dogs enough to stop her going on about having one at home.

any thoughts would be greatfully appreciated

My thought is that being around other people's dogs will only reinforce her desire for one of her own.

DD understands she cant have one of her own this is why we are trying to find 'alternatives' but I get what you are saying, I just feel I have to try and do something to find a compromise with her.

Dog walking?

A friend and I dog walked for a local family when we were teens. It was taken money but we'd take the dog of for hours on a sunny day. Bring it home and train it in the garden and return it back to its kennel when we needed to go out or our parents made us.

The dog was almost like ours.
