Scared my sons going to drown!

This sounds completley ridiculous! My son is 12 and going on his first residential trip to holland for a week...the school are going over by ferry and ive been having awful dreams and thoughts that hes going to fall overboard and die ......im so pleased he wants to go and would never let on to him that i feel like this (obviously) do i just need to get a grip? What if its a premanition? Hes my only child and ive raised him alone,hes never been away from home for more than 2 days!..

Once I had dreadful premonition, my self, 4 children and husband were about to board a plane and I absolutely felt in my bones that if we did we would die, I was literally weeping as we boarded....we of course landed safely and I no longer quite trust my premonitions....poor you, of course you will feel so anxious...it is so hard to let go isnt it, good luck. It gets easier I promise

It is NOT a premonition - it is just your anxiety. Honest. This is totally normal and understandable given you are sending your PFB abroad. But he will be FINE! He will indeed have a lovely time, and maybe even do a few things you would not approve of. It is part of him growing up and becoming more independant. Big hugs to you though,

I suspect news you saw/heard as a child/ teenager (I'm not sure how old you are)has affected you deeply. Perfectly understandable.

Statistically taking a ferry is a safe thing to do. Just don't let him ride a motorbike.

I sympathise. I get these awful thoughts when my kids are going off in the car etc. Are they going from Hull? If so I've been on these ferries several times and there is limited deck access and even then it is well fenced off, unless they were actually hanging over the sides it's unlikely - and I'm sure the school are going to be very careful about this! It is hard but try and relax, he will be fine

Don't ferries have those arcade game rooms? Give him a load of coins. Then he will never see the sea!

Hes going from newcastle....ohhh am sure he'll b fine,wot i think i should do is occupy myself with a holiday aswell but wot if something happens and im not around?.... Lol,just kidding

My 11 YO dd adores cross channel ferries. Admittedly they are a shorter journey, but still. The idea that she can buy a pie or a drink from a shop that is floating really amuses her.
Not sure that they'll be allowed into the arcades. DD got into trouble for putting a pound into a fruit machine, although games ones are different.
OP, it is not a premonition, it's your anxiety.
When I was at school, many many years ago, a day trip to either Calais or Boulogne was the highlight of the year. I think it was a booze cruise for the teachers TBH. Two teachers and 100 odd kids is not a good level of supervision. I clearly remember one boy (BR) hanging off the side of the ferry.
