11 year old son can't control crying

my 11 year old son is unable to stop himself crying when he's frustrated or angry and is now being teased at school and called a crybaby by boys he's always considered friends. he's worried that when he moves to secondary school in September he will be bullied by older kids if he can't stop it. i've noticed that he is becoming reluctant to contact friends outside school as he thinks they don't want to play with him any more.

Am keen to stop this situation developing before it gets any worse. Does anybody have any ideas/advice?

My DS was a bit like this: to his great annoyance, his eyes would fill with tears very quickly if he got a telling off at school. He's 13 and growing out of it now. Secondary school will be a whole new start with a mix of old and new friends. Lots of other children will be nervous about all sorts of things.

Thanks for your comment. It's helpful to know he's not the only one and will maybe grow out of it (fingers crossed!) His crying seems to stem from feelings of anger and frustration which he seems unable to channel or moderate at the moment. unfortunately other kids enjoy provoking him to get this reaction. Hopefully the change of school in September will help.

Hello. Another Mum of a sensitive soul here. No matter how many times I told him to grit his teeth and ignore, give no reaction etc-he still did. Then they knew how to press his buttons and it was all ten times worse.

He is 13 now. It did ease when he went to High School in Year 8. Mixing with new children who didn't know what he was like did help.

Unfortunately we have made the decision to move him to a different school just this week in fact. The sensitive bit was a small part of the decision, but not the whole reason.

It is very difficult. people expect pre-teen boys to be all streetwise and rufty tufty but not all of them are. In our experience teachers don't like teaching the sensitive souls either. Sad

DS1 sensitive too, cried in front of his mates at the weekend when he was tired and hot. They seem very tolerant and he says hedoesn't get teased, but he often won't play out when they knock for him, and i worry they'll get fed up of him :(
High school is great for a new start though - I was so worried for DS1 and he's enjoyed it and done very well
