How often do you give the staff pay rises? I've just given a rate of inflation rise to everyone but only given raises to those who have completed NVQs this year.

We are having quite a healthy year and will give them all summer bonuses based on how many sessions they work. However, holiday pay increases by 5 days this year and the rent has increased (again) and although the number of children registered looks good for next year, it may not be so busy the year after. They are also among the highest paid in the county.

I think I've been quite fair but I have had a couple of staff moan about it. (Like I don't get enough grief from the parents, so hurrah that I finish with it all this year)!

We committed to an annual review. No garantee of a rise as it is dependent on funds after we have put some aside for depreication of equipment etc but it will definitely be reviewed for all staff members each year.

Same as FGS we give an annual review but no gaurantee of raise. We are currently trying to work out how to pay our staff a salary as there are so many extras they can claim for it is getting ridiculous. We also open for different numbers of sessions each term and staff find the lower pay in the first term difficult to budget for. I think given the public sector pay settlements inflation is more than generous

We have an annual review. We try to keep in line with PLA guidelines, and are currently agonising over whether to increase pay as soon as extra qualifications are gained or at subsequent review.

We have an annual review and they all got inflation based pay rises last year. Their pay is based on an hourly rate, apart from the Nursery manager who gets a salary.
Our pay scales are based on qualifications and experience and unfortunately for us two staff members are now newly NVQ level 3 qualified meaning they have had pay rises too.
Summer bonus's would def not be an option for us.
Staff always moan. The pay is crap, but sadly it is no better elsewhere for what they do .

We pay the increased rate from the date the qualification is achieved. These two staff members flew through the course.

I would pay as soon as extra qualification is done.

We pay summer bonuses but low hourly rate.

Annual review here as well.

We pay a basic rate for unqualified staff which is the same level as school pays for lunchtime superisors, with a top up for NVQ level 3 and above. We then pay additional top-ups to the hourly rate to staff prepared to take on extra responsibilities - eg: SENCO, literacy co-ord.

This year our basic has risen by 3% because our EYEFs will go by just over 3% from September. All staff also get 2p per hour extra every year - kind of a long service bonus.

We are very lucky to have low rent, so work on 85% of EYEF's going on staff wages.

Thanks everyone. Nice to know I'm not being tight-fisted.

Ours is Annual Review too and whilst I'm really pleased with everyone, the budget is too tight and fluctuating to allow giving them individual pay rises every year.

Roll on the AGM...
