Do you give gifts to teachers if returning to same class after summer hols

I keep hearing about giving gifts to teachers and am hoping that it's because the kids (this is nursery btw) are moving up to reception in Sept. BUT, I'm now in a panic wondering if people give gifts just because it's 6 weeks until they'll see them again? Hope not as totally skint.

Anyone give any advice? Obviously I plan on ds giving gifts when he moves in January!

TIA

A lot of ds's friends are returning to nursery in Sept, going to reception in Jan. They aren't doing presents afaik, and I wouldn't until my ds left if I was in that situation.
Having said that, I work in a pre-school (not school attached, most kids are 2-3) and I have had presents from a couple who are coming back. Had to check they weren't leaving! Totally unneccessary.

Hopefully these are just people who are leaving then but if not, I also think it's unneccessary. I can't afford to do that and I'm sure most don't so I'm not going to worry about it now.

Thanks

My DD is going back in sep. She has made a card for the teachers (with my help). Presents unecessary imo

I don't do presents anyway. If my child has had a good year and enjoyed being with that teacher, he/she makes a card or similar little thank-you. If I am moved to, I write a little thank-you card myself and/or thank the teacher in person. Most teachers get so much rubbish from parents - and unfortunately I have 2 close relatives who are teachers, who recycle this rubbish to us at Christmas/birthdays!

I wondered about this, dd1 is will be in yr2 in sept but they are mixing with yr1 and so will have the same teacher so I didn't bother.

Also dd2 is returning to pre-school in sept so didn't bother there either!
