Out theme this half term is Noahs Ark.

I was thinking of getting the children to make boats and then use them in the water play area afterwards. Any good ideas on how to make good boats. I thoight of using muller yogurt pots with a straw mast and a flag but I would like to offer the children alternative ways of making them if possible. Any ideas.
I'm a bit worried about the activity as my tutor from college is coming to observe me doing this with the children and her assessment goes towards my assignment pass!!

Any ideas for noahs ark activities would be great. I've got lots of animal costumes for role play etc. Thinking of trying to make a noahs ark for the children to play in?? To ambitious??!! [hymm]

Anyones advice grately appreciated

You could let them make their own boats (junk modelling )and experiment to see which ones sink or float.

Animal matching is early maths.

At our Sunday club they had a small inflatable dingy to pretend to be Noah's Ark and some little wooden animals - the kids loved it

If you have a home corner / playhosue in the nursery already you can convert it to an ark with some wellplaced cardboard bits (make windows into portholes, swap front door for gangplank etc.) If it's a three-fold panel one you can rearrage it so there's a pointy 'bow' end.

tin foil pie dishes make good boats too, also plastic trays from pre-wrapped veg etc

Might be some ideas here

Oh I think I've got a dinghy somewhere. What a good idea.

I'll start collecting tin trays and veg trays as well.

Junk modelling- that had crossed my mind as well.

We have a frame that I was going to attach several large pieces of cardboard around. It had a slide part which could be the gang plank.

I just need to source some large pieces of cardboard now.

Thanks for all the help. I knew you would come good for me

For big cardboard - ask DIY or furntiture places / Ikea maybe ?

Marg tubs would make good boats too
You could print off animals to colour in
Paddling Pool for big ark

We are doing Noah's ark next week and we are making a large wall display ark. The childen are going to make the various animals throughout the week. Tomorrow my craft is making paper plate tiger faces. Would also agree with the floating and sinking water play as a good activity.
