Nursery school - off to a rocky start

It was only our 4th day at the nursery school - my DD goes there fo 2.5 hours, she is at Sure Start and they take her over to their neighbourhood school. The school is far from best, but I've no choice - stuck with Sure Start.
So. Today she refused to go to the loo at the school as they've got a hand-dryer in the loo (tornado type, I'd jump out of my skin myself if it suddently comes on), kicked off big style, dribbled in her knicks, and when I came to pick her up from Sure Start, was all sad and complained about sore tummy.
When I phoned the teacher, she discribed this all, didn't offer any solution (not saying 'we understand, we will help her by turning the blasted thing off, she is only 3, she just started, don't worry' - none of this!!) and added that my DD is somewhat stubborn. As in did not want to play with puppet crocodile.
I've asked Sure Start to make sure that she uses their loo before going to the school, told the teacher that surely one of her helpers can give a little bit more attention to the frightened little girl who needs a wee-wee, and promised to go and stay there with my DD on Tuesday (cannot go on Monday - must file in end of the quarter reports...), but this might distract her more.
Any ideas anybody? Please help!!

That doesn't sound very nice. I think you need to speak to the nursery to make sure that everyone understands how everyone is feeling and how to progress best with your DD.

I'm sure a lot of this will improve as your DD gains confidence BUT it is up to the pre-school staff to help her get there.

I'm surprised at the staff saying 'she's stubborn' as it's far too judgemental to use on a child of this age who has only just joined the pre-sch. Children will join in with games, registration, singing, whatever, when they're ready.

Hope you have a good time on Tuesday and have time for a good chat with the staff. I'm sure it'll all be fine very soon.

Thank you very much NorksBride. I must admit I was thinking 'who does she thinks she is this horrible old bat calling my precious DD names'. Definitely will go there on Tue.
It is such a big difference between nice and comforting setting of Sure Start and state school in 'the area of deprivation'.
Thanks again... Sorry for babbling (after much needed couple of glasses of rouge, as you do)...
