Despite millions being spent on an endless roll of health, activity and nutrition initiatives – there is little evidence of change in behaviours – or any specific benefits.

Enough money, time and effort has been wasted over many years – skirting around the edges while children get fatter and more miserable – their teeth rot and they arrive at school completely unable to sit still, concentrate or manage their personal hygiene.

We demand a reorientation by industry, education and health to ensure actionable policies – firm regulation and reformulated standards of practice in the area of young children’s health and well being.

Free childcare, new playgrounds and yet another ‘activity initiative’ are all useless if not fully supported by quality staff and standards that can be enforced and assessed.

Knowledge and advice alone are not enough any more.

All who impact on young children’s lives need to sign this petition and ensure that they really do get ‘the best start in life.’

The completed petition will be presented to Ed Timpson, Minister of State for Children and Families and Sam Gyimah, Parliamentary Under Secretary for Early Years and Child Care.
