Story book compendium for 3 year old boy?

I am bored of the Three Little Pigs (although ds loves it)

He will sit through about 10/`15 minutes of story, but most compendiums seem to be for much older boys, or excessively fairyish-princessy. Any ideas?

We bought DS a load of books by Gina Yolen (I think). All about dinosaurs eating dinner, counting, going to bed. He loves them and theyy have great illustraions on them. There's 6 of them I think.

Stories by Julia Donaldson (the Gruffalo, My Teddy), go down really well in this house. There are not many we dont have, my dd's are 3 and 5 and have loved them forever. Its the rhyming I think that keeps them interested.

As a nursery nurse, I have a massive collection of books to take to work with me, as nursery libraries tend to be limited due to funds! dd loves it though! They are all 'educational' in that they are have an 'educational' meaning in them. Colourful rhyming books can't be beaten IMO. My personal faves are anything by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler or Where's my Teddy.

Have a look in Waterstones during their sale as kids books can be quite expensive, often more than adult books! Books for Children is also a good site to have a look on for inspiration.

The Mr Men books are going down a treat with my 2 year old and the Mog books are a new fave as well.

red house books do some lovely ones at www.redhouse.co.uk and reasonably priced. I love "the very hungry caterpillar" and another good one is "the tiger who came to tea" also "the grufalo" and "where the wild things are".

my ds 2.6 loves anything bright esp with flaps/pop up etc

Mick Inkpen has a book of 4 stories including Lullabyhullaballoo, Billy's Beetle, Bear and Nothing - they're particularly good if you use different voices for each character when reading.

There are several books called Pirate Pete but the one we have has different picture inserts to slot into each page for example, 'Captain Stubble pointed his... sword/teddy bear/sock/lobster'. It's suitably silly for 3 year olds. It's a really short story but it takes about 20 minutes!

Hutchinsons Childrens Treasury is a big mixed book split into 3 chapters roughly by age. DS aged 3 is enjoying Dr Xargle, King Rollo's New Shoes and A Dark, Dark Tale, from amongst them.

If you want a book of collected stories rather than lotas of indivudual books then my 2.5 year old ds loves his book of collected Thomas the Tank stories, also the Usborne book of train stories.
