Hi, My daughters starting Oakhyrst this September and has an open mourning this coming Thursday. My daughter can get very upset when being left by herself, I just wanted any advise people had to lower her anxiety. Also, if anyone else's child is starting Oakhyrst and sharing my worries.
hi there I only just saw this thread and was wondering how you are feeling first day of term! what year is your daughter in? my 2 dc go there and I just wanted to reassure you that they are lovely there, particularly with the little ones. it is quite a small school and the older children look after the younger ones quite nicely am stage early years teachers have lots of experience with children who get upset and are very good with them. x
Hi there, I am looking to move my 4y old son from His current school into Oakhyrst and was wondering how far ahead Reception children are - our state school is really not doing much and there's a lot of effort at home. Anyone that can share syllabus of reception at Oakhyrst or what's been covered so far (Jan 2014).
Hi Jenny I don't think they are massively ahead in Reception - you can see the difference more as they get further up - y2/3/4. I think possibly they may get a head start in reading as they start early (in the Nursery class before Reception) and don't really use Phonics which seemed to suit my children. They read with a teacher every day, sometimes more, and generally have a new book every night or so (don't know how this compares with Reception?). Only 20 in a class so I guess that probably means more individual attention.
I think the year groups are full though so you would need to get him down on the waiting list I think.
