At birth (and what was the gestation), 6mths and 12mths.
I know you can't compare babies but just curious to see how much weight prem babies put on and if it is at a similar rate to term babies.
My DD weighed 2lb 1oz at birth.
Was born at 30 +6 but small for dates/IUGR.
She's now 11 wks and weighs 4lb 7oz.
ds1 35+5 weeks 5lb 2oz
dd1 31+1 weeks 3lb 12oz
dd2 33+2 weeks 3lb 8oz
ds2 33+5 weeks 4lb 8oz
not sure about thw weights of the older 3 but callum is 23 weeks and weighes 11lb 5oz
ds was 2lb 15oz at 33 weeks due to IUGR
I can only remember that he was about 10lb at about 6 months as we looked to see when he was at dd's birthweight
dd was 3lb 3oz at 35 weeks (IUGR). I think she was about 11/12 lb at 6 months. Cant remember at a year.
DS 29+5 3lb 4oz. 6 months 15lb
Thanks for the speedy replies. I'm having an off day today and although DD is putting on 2lb a week at the moment and is doing really well I'm just concerned about how small she is going to be and if she will ever catch up
I'm only small myself at 5ft and was only 16lb 8oz at 12mths (despite being 7lb 8oz at birth)
Does anyone know if IUGR babies take longer to catch up than prem babies in general?
What should she be by the time she is 12mths - is it something like treble her birth weight (for term babies??) if so that would only make her just 6lb 3oz at 12mths which surely can't be right???
DT1
3lb 10oz 31+4 weeks didn't make it past day one.
DT2
3 lb 0.5 oz at 31+4 weeks
10 lb 13 oz at 5 months
12 lb 11 oz at 7 months
of course i mean 2oz a week!
at 11 weeks DT2 was 6lb 14 oz and was treble his birth weight (9lb 4oz) at 18 weeeks.
I know it is really hard but try not to worry if she is growing which she is and seems well then be reassured. She sounds fine to me.
Thanks Charleymouse - so sorry to hear about DT1
I'm fine most of the time but then every now and again I realise just how tiny she is and it sets me off worrying.
Just out of interest Charleymouse was your DS breast or bottle fed? Just because I'm Breastfeeding and I know that breastfed babies put on weight slower - as a general rule - and although I know that this is fine I'm still worried in case I'm 'holding her back' - I know I'm not but sometimes feel like that
Lily-Hope was 320g or 11.25oz - 20 weeks gestation
Tink was a massive 4lb 2oz, 31 weeks gestation;
around 9lb at 6 months, IIRC;
and 17lb at 12 months.
We only got a couple of oz a time for the first couple of months. At 3 months (6lb 2oz) she stopped growing for a month, but it was a case of what I gave her was the equivalent of a wee (she weed on the scales and lost the weight she put on once). At 4 months she put on just over 1lb in just over a week and was back on her line.
It sounds like she is growing fine, you are not holding her back you are giving her the best possible start to life. Don't let anyone tell you different.
DT 2 breast fed. Consultant said not bothered about weight as long as developing okay so try not to panic. Sorry lights out time night night.
Ds was a massive 5lb4 at 34+3 (no IUGR - obviously!) and has remained pretty chunky. Don't remember his weight at 6 and 12 months but he was definitely over 20lb at 9 months.
On the other hand, I have a friend whose baby was born healthy and at term, and he has always been tiny. I think he only got to 20lb (ie could go in a forward facing car seat) at 14 or 15 months. Some babies are just built to be small whether they were early or not, and if you are small yourself then that is probably just how dd is meant to be.
Of course you are not holding her back - your milk is the best possible start for her in life and you have worked so hard and done so well to bring her home bfing. I know it's so easy to say but - try not to worry!
Oh and I don't think there is anything she "should" be by 12 months - maybe treble the birthweight is a general guideline for term babies but ds was much more than that and my friend's baby was much less. Both of them were healthy and fine. As long as she is healthy and developing, I really don't think it matters how much she weighs.
Ds1 32wks 4lb 6oz I don't remember what he was at 6 and 12 months.
He is now 8 and is tall and slim
DD was 3lbs 14oz at 36 weeks (IUGR), DS although not premature (born at 37.1) was only 3lbs 11oz also IUGR.
Can't remember what DD was at a year. DS was 26lbs at a year.
I was told that premature babies do most of their catching up both in weight and height in their second year. This was certainly true for my DD. She is nearly 4 and in the 85th centile for height and the 40th for weight. DS wasn't even on the charts when born, he is now in the 55th for height and climbing in the weight department
.
ds2 28wks & 2lb 11oz
he was 6lb at 2months & can't remember the weight at 6mths but his weight was above average by a year old.
He is 5 now & the tallest boy in his class & 3.5 stone.
DD 32weeks 5lb 1.5oz
DS1 born at 37 weeks weighing 4lb 10oz
Dt2 born at 29 weeks Twin 1 was 2lb 14.5 and twin 2 2lb 13
Jambuttie and Victorian squalor - can I ask what weight your LO's were at 6mth and 12mths?
DS was born at 35 weeks and was 6lb 5oz. At 6 months he was 19lb 4oz, and 24lb 3oz at a year.
HVs kept asking if I was really sure of my dates... Which since I had had 5 v early scans due to previous losses, I was.
oops - was 19lb 1 oz at 29 weeks and obv can't work out where that would be at 6 months by my previous post...
Dd4 was 33+5 and weighed 4lb 9oz. I can't remember her weights later on but she is 4 now and 3 stone!!
Leo was a 30 weeker (exactly) and weighed 3lbs (exactly). He was 11lbs 10oz at 6 months and 18.5 lbs at 12.
He did fail to thrive for the first nine weeks though and then lost almost a lb in weight when he had an op and almost died afterwards so I guess he would have weighed a bit more.
Maria
Rascal, I really can't remember tbh, she is 7 now!
DT2 who is 4 now is still timy and is on build up drinks to help with the weight. By the time he was 2 he was 19lb only
IRRC DD1 was 27 weeker weighing 1lb 12oz, she came home at 14 weeks weighing 4lbs 2oz. I think she was about 13lbs at a year.
She is now nerly 9 and stilla little skinny minnie
Hi
My son was born at 27 weeks and was 890g or 1lb 15.5oz. At 6 months he weighed approx 13lb and at 1 year approx 17lb.
He is 4 in May and is about 33lb now but very tall! Have to buy him age 2-3 trousers with elasticated waists but he is perfect in every way!
I am only 5ft tall and although weighed a whopping 8lb at birth (30 years ago!) I was only around 18lb at 1 apparently.

DD was 3lb 14oz at birth (36 weeks IUGR. She put on weight incredably slowly for first 5-6 months and felt under huge pressure from HV and Neonatal nurses about her weight. She was BF for first 8 weeks then introduced one bottle of formula about then (caved into pressure) and BF rest of the time. At 16 weeks she still weighed less than 7lbs so caved in again (to yet more pressure) and introduced second bottle at lunch time). Still BF also until 10 months (although just at night by then.
They kept trying to put her slow weight gain down to every reason under the sun, but I feel personally that IUGR babies have had to grow slower in-utero in order to survive so therefore are not designed to pack the weight on quickly, but that is only my opinion.
Her weight gain picked up more when I weaned her at 5 months. She weighed roughly 11 1/2 lbs at 6 months and 17lbs at a year. She is not huge now at just two (about 24lbs) but no noticeable difference to her peers now.
Go with your instincts what is important is that you are happy with your LO's progress. However, I can rememember the awful pressure of her poor weight gain and know exactly how you feel. it is only now I can look back more objectively.
HTH
Mine weren't prem but am 34wks pg now and trying to guess what my lo might weigh now!
But just to reassure you dd was term + 12 days and weighed 8lbs so theoretically she should have weighed around 24lbs at 12mths.
She is now almost 20mths and weighs just over 20lbs so it is very unlikely she will have tripled her birth weight by 2!
She is perfectly healthy and has a great appetite though
DS was 8lb 6 and now at almost 3 he only weighs 2st 2lbs (30lbs).
As someone else said, some children just gain weight at a slower pace. I think 2oz a week sounds great for your dd- the main thing is that she is gaining weight, however slowly! I'm sure she'll be fine, even if she is petite!
Ellen was 1lb 3oz small for her 24 weeks.
Hi There
My DD was 1lb 15oz or 895g
28+3
sepnt 11 week in hosp and weiged 9lb at 6 months.
She is now 4 and 1/2 years and a little cutie xx
My twins were born at 32 weeks and 6 days
dts weighed in at 3lb 4oz
dtd weighed in at 4lb 8oz
they spent 4 weeks in scabu
34 weeks 4lb 13oz
30 weeks (+ 1 day apparently), ds was 7lb 6oz.
H eis now very tall but still underweight in relation, also he is 9 so i have no idea what he was at 6ms or 12ms!!
My son was born at 27+6 weeks and weighed 560 grams (1lb 4ish) - severe IUGR. He put on weight INCREDIBLY slowly, which worried me sick, but even though he was teeny and skinny he developed well in all other ways. He turned 4 in January, is 97 cms tall and weighs just 25lbs. He does the 'skinny jeans half way down his bum' look extremely well!! He starts school in September and my only real concern is his uniform - I think I might get his trousers tailored!!!
The weight worry is a nightmare, but it does get easier - I say all this with the benefit of hindsight. I never thought I would get here, but I'm in a place now where I hardly ever think about his weight.
Anyone with tips for skinny school uniforms, I'd love to hear from you.
skinny school trousers?
try M&S, they work out tight on the waist but long in the leg for my DS1. not that i can get him to wear them..its baggy jeans and pants showing round here at the mo...
36 weeks = 5lb 12
6 mnths = 16lb 6
12 mnths = 23lb 2
he went from 7lb 12 at 3 months to 16lb 6 at 6 months! didnt grow at all at first then leapt from .04 centile to 60 centile.
34 - 4lbs 1 1/2oz
Oops - he's only 9 months now so don't have the other weights.
Stopped having him weighed at around 6 months because he eats lots, is very active, has beautiful skin but because he was on the 2nd centile when he was born and dropped to the 1st I was made to feel like a terrible mother.
I refuse to stuff him with very fatty sugary foods just to make him fit on a line that is designed for bottlefed babies anyway.
DTs were born at 35 weeks on the nose and weighed a respectable 4lb15 and 5lb4.
Can't remember 6m weights, but they were on 50th centile.
DD [dc3] was my only early one, 36+5, weighed 6lb 10oz. has always been on the 2nd centile. Now at the age of two she is into 12-18mo clothes and size 5.5 shoes. At last we get out of 'baby' clothes...
Don't worry. good things in small packages etc. I have resigned myself to the fact that she will be likely to be starting school in clothes with 2-3yrs on the label. At least you get them in everything you visit for free
when they are so small!
LLR - we have some titchy school uniform, BHS do size 3yrs in school polo shirts, and we got very small so-called 4yr trousers in "Instore" - see if it is in your area. They are so cheap that they must make them really small.... My DS2 (who wasn't prem, he's just titchy!) is 4 and wears this combination. As a guide, many of the clothes in his wardrobe from high street shops say 2-3 yrs on the labels
DS 35 weeks 5lb 2oz
He's 7 months now and about 15lb
36 weeks[not very prem] and was 5lbs 3 onces cant remember but he is now 2.6 years old and between 2/2.6 stone
hiya my wee man was 33wks and 4lb was in SCBU for 5 weeks he is now 7months and was weighed 2weeks ago at 11lb
DD was born at 35 weeks but weighed 6lb 15.5oz! In some ways I was very gald she didn't go to term. She has a couple of days in SCBU but was basically fine and she's now 9 months and weighs 20lb.
980 grammes at brth 26 weeks (I think about teh same size as yours), was about 7lbs by EDD. can't remember others wihtout looking up.
Was on "normal" charts by about 1yr and at 2.3yrs is about 40% on charts.
I did quite a bit of research on premmies when deciding whether to accept DS's referral. Most premmies catch up size in firt two years, extremely low weight premmies (under 1kg) can take 4-6 years to catch up. Studies into growth of children born prematurely found that by 16yrs 85% were within average height/weight for their peers (whatever size they started out) the 15% who were smaller than average had a predominantly higher number of short mothers (don;t know why they didn't seem to take father into account in teh study I read).
25 weeks born, just over a pound
6 months about 9 pounds
12 months about 14 pounds
32+5 and 3lb 3oz for dd. I cant remember her weights after that but she was small until she was 9 months then suddenly went from 3-6 month clothes to 9-12 month ones. She's now nearly two and tall and healthy.
DS born at 35weeks and weighed 5lbs 15ozs. He was bottle fed and weighed 26lbs on his first birthday (although he was actually a little under 11mths old if you backdate) and sitting under the 98th centile. He is still heavy now and it's all muscle, no excess flesh at all.
dd was 5lb 5oz at 37 weeks and is 5 in july but only weighs 24lb. ds was 6lb 8oz 39+6 and at now at 18 months is 22lb both where breast fead and eat the same food and get the same amount of exercise i just think dd was ment to be small.
My friend's DS was born at 27 weeks and was 1lb 13oz, at 6 months is was 12lbs 12oz I think and doing well.
ID twins born at 29 weeks
2lb 9 and 2lb 13. They both weighed about 12lb at 6 months and 18lb at 1 year.
Ds was 34+6, 2lb 12 IUGR. Was weighed two wks ago at 25 wks and was 15lb 9. Only got ebm for 4 wks though before my milk supply dried up, has been on nutriprem ever since.
How is your dd getting on now rascal?
Hi beachbunni - gald to here your LO is doing well.
Babyrascal is good she is still small at 7lb 4oz at 20 wks but developmentally seems to be doing fine and is actually advanced with her headcontrol!
Awh, glad your lo is ok. Remember your name from when you were pregnant as you weren't far behind me. I think esp when you have a prem and IUGR baby so much emphasis is put on weight, when really as long as they're healthy and happy is all that matters. I had a wee nosey at your photos and she is gorgeous. My cousin exclusively bf for the 1st 6 months and her lo was slower to put on weight until he was weaned on food, then he just piled it on. I would have loved to have bf but unfortunately none of my plans turned out the way I wanted them to!
32 weeks & 4lbs
6 months corrected - 17lb 8oz
925 grammes or 2lb half an ounce. 27 weeker.
Ds1 born 35 weeks & 5lb 12oz
6 months 16lb
12 months 21lb 6oz
37 weeks 9lbs 8ozs
36w 12 lbs 2 oz at 6mths 14lb 5oz
37w 12 lbs 8 oz at 6mths 14 bs 5oz at 12mths 17lbs 3oz and now at 2.10 is 16kg and 106cm
All babies develop at their own rate rascal so dont be over concerned. My dd2 is 10mths now and is 16lb 15oz but when you consider she was 12lb 2oz at birth it looks awful. She will find her pace as will your dd.
27+1 (I though +6 but hosp said 1)
2 lb 12 (big!)
I can't remember her weight but she had caught up by a year old.
My son was born at 32 1/2 weighing 3 Ibs 5ozs. He is now 12 and is very well and very intelligent.
The baby unit in Hammersmith Hospital was brilliant! I remember the tears.
It was a difficult time when he was born but God helped us through.
born at 27 weeks and weighed 2lb 8 oz
now 2 weeks old and weighs 2lb 5 oz!
Babyrascal has hit the 0.4th Centile today!
She has put 8oz on in a week and now weighs 10lb 6oz!!
I'm sooo proud of her
34 weeks gestation, 3lb 6 (IUGR)
21 weeks, 13lb 11!
Weight gain was very slow to start, but the last 6 weeks has been putting on nearly 1lb every week!
Baby Rascal is now 36 weeks and is 11lb 5oz. She has dropped off the 0.4th centile again but developmentally doing well.
DS2 30+5, 1.39 kg / 3lb
Weighed on Monday, 7 weeks, gest age 37+5, 2.35 kg / 5lb 3oz. HIs weight gain was very slow at first but since leaving SCBU and their 4hr feeding routine he's bf on demand (and he's very demanding!) and gained 1lb in 2 weeks.
(Am I the only British person who finds it much easier to think in kg than in lb and oz???)
Born at 35 weeks and weighing a whopping 8lbs 15oz
daughter born at 36+6 4lb 11oz
12 months 14lb
11 years 3 stone
DD was born at 35+6 weeks but she's always been big (she weighed more than ds did at 38 weeks) - on the 98th centile for height & around the 91st for weight.
birth - 7lbs 11oz
6 months - 18lbs
1 year - 24lbs
8 years - 77lbs
twins born at 31+6 weeks.
birth 1290g and 1205g.
6 weeks 2200g and 2015g
Wow that's great weight gain Ellac
Babyrascal is now 47 weeks and weighs 13lb 8oz ....so looks as though she will just about reach 14lb by her first birthday but she is sooooo perfect in everyway it really does not matter
DD was born at 33+5 and weighed 5lb 2oz
4 weeks later she now weighs 5lb 10oz :-)
She was born at 32 weeks weighing 3 pounds 6, 4 months old now and weighs 10 pounds and 1 ounce.
dd 32 weeks, 4lb8oz.
6 months 14lb.15oz
12 months 21ll14oz
She's 4 in a few weeks and weighs 3 stone and is very very tall for her age.
Thanks for all the replies on here since this thread was started back in March. DD is coming up to her first birthday - in just under two weeks
- and it looks as though she will be under 14lb
She has put weight on at a steady rate but less so for the past 6 weeks or so.
She has lost 3oz over the past couple of weeks due to a tummy bug and currently weighs 13lb 6oz.
However I am much more laid back about her weight (still stress some days but no where near as much as I did!) and try to focus more on her development - she is doing really well even almost walking!!
Although I was told yesterday that at a year they stop correcting her age so her weight on the centile chart is going to look really low as it is corrected by 9 weeks at the moment(currently this puts her about 0.5kg below the 0.4th centile) ho hum
31wks-3 lb 14 oz
28wks 2lb spent
26wks 1 lb 10oz was on oxegn for 18 months.
Ds2 was 5lb10 at birth, at 35 weelks.
Gained weight well until 3 months old. Slow weight gain since then.
At 6 months (actual) he was about 12.5lb
At 10 months (actual) he is 14lb 14oz
sooo babyrascal turned one yesterday and weighs a mighty 13lb 12oz!! Wanted to make 14lb and thought maybe the birthday cake she ate at weekend may have helped tip the scales but sadly not!
Thanks for all your replies!!
born 24wks
weighing 1 pound 7 ounces
5months now 10lbs 4 ounces
birth
4lb 12oz

17lb 8oz
born at 36 weeks. Is now 9 months exactly and weighs about 22lb.
Twins at 33+6 -- 4lb abd 4lb 5oz. 10 weeks now and 9.5 lbs.
hi i have twins how are now 20 months they came 8 and half weeks early at 31 weeks. my wee bot stop growing so they had to come. lucas weighed 2lb 9oz and was 2lb 15oz. they now weigh lily just over 18 and half pound and lucas is just over 20 lb i have been told lily is the size of a 10 month old and lucas is the size of a 11 month old. they are 2 in june. they were in scbo for 5 weeks. they are both walking now. and lily very good at speaking
My granddaughter was born IUGR and is only gaining weight very slowly about 2 ounces per week. She was not premature because she was growing slowly and they decided to leave her inside the womb.
At birth she was 5lb 6 ounces and at
20 weeks only 8lb 12 ounces.
I found this site via a search engine because I wanted to know if IUGR babies developed differently and it seems that they can. Anyway the bottom line is that they may have gone into a catabolic state (almost like starvation) and can take a while to come out of it.
If you try and give a great deal of food to someone that has been starved you mess up the body chemistry (try a Google search on it) and it can be dangerous. Perhaps an IUGR baby's body somehow knows this but they obviously cannot do experiments on human babies.
Anyway my daughter-in-law did cave in to the pressure to get the baby on to formula but it does not seem to have speeded up her growth. I am relieved to have found that other babies gain at her rate and are being loved and looked after because my daughter-in-law feels as if the HV thinks she is neglecting the baby.
Daughter was born weighing 1lb 10oz
She is now utterly gorgeous and weighs approximatly 2 st
Ciaran was 2lb 4oz and Boyo was 2lb 14oz. They were born at 28w 3days.
Boyo's four and a half now and weighs about 32lb.
my twins were 1.6kg and 1.8 kgs, born at 33+6. Just got them home after 2 1/2 wks in scbu so we are celebrating!
As a premie myself (36wks and 2kgs - but this was quite a long time ago!), trust me, we catch up - maybe not in the first year or 2, but we get there! And judging from the neighbour's son who at one point held the record for being the uk's smallest surviving baby (now a teenager), he clearly has no problem catching up. He's so tall!
DD2 was 4lb at birth, 32wks. currently weighs 5lb11oz at 11wks (tomorrow).
she's just dropped off the centiles and i had given her formula for a couple of weeks but decided on my better judgment to stop and i'm happy i did but i do feel i may be holding her back a little... though she's averaging around 2.5oz a week on my calculations. and she was very ill at 4wks old and lost weight after she'd started gaining.
980gr (err think thats about 2lb) at 26 weeks.
Would have to look up later weights in red book. But at 3.5yrs at 25% on charts.
connor was born 26 weeks at 2lb sadly my little angel died at 36 weeks
DD 4lbs 4 when born at 37 weeks exactly
11 lbs 2 at 20 weeks
"If you try and give a great deal of food to someone that has been starved you mess up the body chemistry (try a Google search on it) and it can be dangerous. Perhaps an IUGR baby's body somehow knows this but they obviously cannot do experiments on human babies."
I can't comment on your grandchild, but that frightens me. My IUGR baby was induced early and tube fed formula in SCBU for several days. Her weight gain has subsequently been normal and she is now on the chart and creeping up the centiles.
Joseph 27 weeks 1 lb 10oz (since been told this was with a hat and tube on so should be 1 lb 7oz
He's now almost six weeks old and weighs 2 lb 7 oz! Good boy!
My baby boy (now three weeks old, was 36 weeks and also IUGR) was 4lb 6oz (1.985kg). Today he weighed in at 2.35kg, which is over 5lb, BIG celebration here!!
Son was 2lb 14oz at 29 weeks, 17lb at a year and to give everyone out there some hope, he is now 15yrs and 5ft 10ins, although I haven't a clue how much he weighs!!
1.2kg at 28 wks
Now 13 and "petite" not thin and absolutely fine - around 6 st - v v rarely goes near scales!
Did feel quite anxious initially but learnt to relax as I appreciated that other things are more important than weight despite other people's comments!!
However - not sure what brought me to this thread (NEVER been here before!)but am quite interested in the progress that those of low birth weight make and wanted to reassure if poss I guess

dd was 3lb 10oz at 30+5 weeks. Only 5 days old.
ooooooh, congratulations ladylush!
Ds1 - born at 37 weeks - 4lbs 15oz - IUGR

Sounds like she is doing well to me x

...weighed 11lb 8oz @ 6 months
...15lb 2oz @12months
now weighs 28lb @ 3.9
Evelyn was born at 31 weeks weighing 2lbs 7oz (IUGR). She is now 13lbs and 5.5 months
DS was 27 weeks, 1lb 4oz (IUGR). Now 11 months (uncorrected) and 13lb 8oz. He's wee and not catching up yet, but I think he will in the end.
both due to placental abruption.
Dd at 30 weeks, born 4lbs, now 16 and 5ft 9!
Ds at 27 weeks, born 2lbs now 9 and tallest in class
DS1 was 6lb 9oz at 34+3 (I think!!)
don't remember his 6mths / yr but he's now almost 20, 6ft tall, built like a tank and competes in a sport at international level.
DD1 was born at 32+1 weighing in at 3lb 10oz. Don't know the other weights but she is now a beautiful, bright, articulate 12 year old with all the trappings of a pre-teen.
My 2nd baby was born at 36+2 weighing in at 4lb 3oz. I was told he would be smaller, so I had my eyes shut for the whole birth.
He is now 12weeks + 4 days, and he is weighing in at 9lbs 7oz. I thought he would be a bit bigger, so I was a little shocked. I am now worried that there is something wrong with him. He is a happy little monkey, and he talks non stop to me which is so cute.
My first child was born at 38+6 and he only weighted 5lbs 11oz so I think I am just made to have small children. {smile}
First was 5lb7 @ 38+5
6mnths was only about 14lb
12mnths was about 23lb
Second was 3lb1 & hlf oz @ 30+3
At 4&hlf mnths was 10lb9
Will b 20wks thursday,
Both mine were breastfed, well had breastmilk shud i say, the grow slower this is normal in any baby.
Prem babies are expected to catch up by 2yo so do not worry.
My cousin had a baby 2days after i had my prem baby & theres only 3lb difference now

Just to reassure anyone who comes here who has or is expecting a 23 weeker, mine were 1lb 3oz and 1lb 5oz. Neither are blind, and neither of them show any signs of having anything wrong with them.
They were between 10 and 11 lbs at 6 months, but are only almost 8 months now so can't comment on teh 12 month weights.

Anxious, I'm really sorry about your experience, and I am sure this must be very very tough for you and your little one.
However some prems do ok, even when very early, and many catch up. As a result I think your second post was completley unecessary. A number of people, myself included ocme onto this part of the board for information, advice and reassurance. It is appropriate that we can get this without being given offense for having come out of a truly terrible experience with positive stories to tell. It is also appropriate that others who have come less far down the rollercoaster which is having a prem baby hear some positive stories. We all know the risks of premature labour, we would all rather not have gone through it, but I for one do not need reminding of the negatives in such a negative way.
Duncan I'm really pleased that your twins seem to be doing so well and hope they continue to do so,
For what its worth my DS was born at 29+3 weighed 3lb at birth and was between 13 and 14lb at 6 months.

It is very very unusual for 23 weekers to be 'fine'.
It's not a case of being perfect anxious land it's just luck. Good luck or shitty luck
it's not your fault anxious land and I'm sorry you had the shitty luck.
Theres no need to call people cunts though.
Hi, new to board. DS was born at 26 wks weighing 2lb3oz. Now a strapping 4YO, no indications of prem birth.
I was so obsessed by my twins weight. They were born at 28 weeks and weighed 2lb 9 and 2lb 11. I can still remember the dreaded weigh ins at clinic and hated them as Jack has CLD and reflux so never put on huge amounts of weight and even lost at times, especially when I was weening him. The woman who weighed them would always announce his gain or loss to the entire room and I'd feel like such a bad Mum. In the end my fab HV got wind of this and came and weighed them at home. She really took the pressure off. She said that as long as they follow their centiles and didn't drop a whole 2 centiles they were doing fine and not to worry. She said that weight gain does fluctuate a lot even in term babies but we notice it more as our tiny ones have to be weighed more often. Once they were weened she gave me some fab tips on how to help their weight. Full fat double cream, unsalted butter, olive oil and full fat cheese in anything they'd go in. It worked a treat! They are 2 1/2 now and 2 1/2 stone a piece. It took them those 2 years to really catch up developmentally and size wise but you'd never know now they were so tiny when they were born
I know it's easy for me to say this now but try not to worry too much about her weight gain. She will catch up eventually xxxx
Hi this is my first post!
I had twins born at 28 weeks,
Charlie was 1st at 2lb 10oz
James 2nd at 2lb 2oz
Now they are 9 months (6 months corrected) and charlie weighs 16lb 12oz and James 16lb 4oz. Two big bruisers!!
DD was 34+6 and weighed 4lb 11oz. In neo natal she literally fit in my DH palm
DD is now 4 years old. She's smaller than the other children but she's got MASSIVE feet
DS1 was 1 lb, 11 0z born at 25 weeks
My daughter was born at 34 weeks but was only 2lb 15oz ( she was small due to my placenta failing therefore not feeding her )
I cant remember what she was at 6 months but she was 20lbs at 1 yr, she has just turned 2 and is 28lb
xx
DS born on Friday, weighs 5lbs 6oz, born at 35+1 gestation. He's off the CPAP and starting kangaroo care. I just want him get stronger and to come home soon...
1st prem baby born at 33+4 weighed 6lbs 4ozs.
2nd prem baby born at 34+1 weighed 6lbs 1oz.
3rd prem baby born at 33+3 weighed 5lbs 6ozs.
Twins born at 28 weeks
J - 2 lb 11oz S - 2 lb 9oz
Now 2 1/2 and 2 1/2 stone each!!!!
I put lots of fats into their food. So full fat cheeses, full fat double cream and unsalted butter into anything they would go in to to get the calories into them. It worked a treat and they are now on the 50th centile for height and weight for their actual age
Don't worry, they soon catch up xxx
Ooops - forgot I'd already posted on here!! What can I say, I have a brain like a cabbage!!
I've posted on this thread already too (duncandisorderly) but can now update that my twins were 1lb 3oz and 1lb 5oz when born, 10-11lbs at six months, and 17lbs at 12 months. They were 23 weekers.
Born October 1998 at 24 weeks - weight - 1 lb 11 0z - came home April 1999 - 4 lb 3 0z.
Severly disabled
just to cheer the premie parents up
my twin brother and I were born at 32 weeks, I was 3lb 10, my brother was 3lb 8
we are now 33, I'm 6ft, he is 6ft 4, both university graduates, and gainfully employed with families of our own
no developmental delays, I have slight vision issues that they can't say if connected with being prem or not but corrected with glasses and never held me back
My ds was born at 27+4 weeks weighing 1lb 13oz, came home at 11wks weighing 4lb 5oz. She is now 5yo, and although petite (still fits in 2-3yrs trousers/skirts) she shows no signs of being born preemie.
Hey! I thought I'd post after coming across this thread because I found it so interesting and have a (very!) surprising response!
You'll have to excuse the fact I'm not down with the abbr. lingo on here lol...
But... My son was born at 34+4 and weighed a whopping 8lb 4oz!!
Hes now nearly 5 months old and weighs 18lb 14oz!! (such a big boy but solid & really tall!) -although makes your eyes water to think how big he would have been had I reached full term!!
He was born with Severe Respiratory Distress & had pretty bad jaundice but only spent 10 days in intensive care until he came home & shows no signs of being a prem baby.
Ds born at 27 weeks 2lb 4oz needed several operations
at 11 weeks old was 4lb 14oz. Can't remember the other sorry but now 3 weighs 31lbs still light but tall with no issues

My DS was born at 32wks 5lbs 3.5ozs (I had GD), and was 16lbs 9ozs at 17 weeks actual. He was bf til 6 weeks, then mix fed for 4 weeks, then ff as I had supply issues and was starving him! Have had run-ins with the HV, who doesn't believe me when I say he has 5 8oz bottles a day, no solids, nothing else. He's just putting weight on so quickly, I can see why they'd be sceptical but it's not helping as I know I'm telling the truth and while they're considering me being a liar as a possible cause, they're not considering anything else!
I had my twin girls at 30+3 weeks and t1 weighed 2lb 15oz n t2 weighed 3lb 1oz, they are now 8 wks, been home nearly 4weeks n t1 now weighs 5lb 9oz and t2 weighs 5lb 2oz xxx

to cheer the premmie parents up
I was born 39 years ago 1974 my mum was very ill with pre eclampsia told she was going to give birth to a baby who had died - I was born at 24 weeks weighing 1lb 12 oz alive, totally not expected to be alive.
The staff had to go up to London hospitals to get equipment
Anyway my parents and me are fine, and my son has turned 1, after IVF pregnancy, and losing 3 babies
ds1 37 weeks, 5lb 2

she is EBF
Dd 36 weeks 8lb
I remember she was 12lb at 12 weeks
Ds 35 weeks 7lb 13
he was only 9lb at his six week check though
DS, 36 weeks 7lb 7oz, EBF. Both his sisters were term and large. He fed badly initially and lost 10% of his body weight in the first three days, and took a month to regain his birth weight. But by 4 months he was on the fiftieth percentile uncorrected. EBF but he's my third and the first where I've not had oversupply issues, he does feed much more than the girls did.
