When did you get stretch marks???

Writerwannabe83 Thu 23-Jan-14 17:33:39

I'm 31 weeks tomorrow and people are always quick to ask me if I've got stretch marks yet...

Does everyone get them.....and when??

Rockchick1984 Thu 23-Jan-14 17:36:54

There's loads of threads about this - generally seems most people get them 38 weeks plus.

highlove Thu 23-Jan-14 18:00:04

I haven't yet but am expecting them as I got a lot during puberty. But I had my 34 week check today with a new midwife who specifically commented that I hadn't got any yet and lots of people do by now. Not sure that really answers your question though! (And she might just have been being nice as we'd already had a chat about my weight gain and I said I was a bit concerned it was too much.)

SweepTheHalls Thu 23-Jan-14 18:04:09

I'm afraid between 2 and 6 days overdue! If only he had been on time then I wouldn't have had any!

Crocky Thu 23-Jan-14 18:13:48

I didn't get any with either of my pregnancies.

Cariad007 Thu 23-Jan-14 18:22:08

I have some from my teenage growth spurt but at nearly 37 weeks don't have any on my bump. Yet! I've put on about 11lb over my pregnancy so far which isn't too bad, and hopefully I won't put on too much more in the next few weeks, though I am prepared for the worst. I've been putting anti-stretch mark oil (not Bio Oil, just a cheapie from Savers) on the bump too but don't know if that helps that much. I've heard that if you're gonna get 'em you're gonna get 'em!

RalphRecklessCardew Thu 23-Jan-14 18:26:34

Never.

Writerwannabe83 Thu 23-Jan-14 18:33:37

I'm liking all these responses, I'm feeling much more positive now grin

I've put on 21lbs so far and no stretch marks as yet....

I won't mind if I do get them as I accept they are part of pregnancy, but your replies have given me hope that they can be avoided grin

drawohamme Thu 23-Jan-14 18:39:23

I didn't get them either.

TheBookThief Thu 23-Jan-14 18:39:26

Only got them once past EDD- naughty DC wink

EmmaFreudsGivingMeJip Thu 23-Jan-14 18:42:11

Mine appeared at 35 weeks on my hips. None on my bump. Not yet anyway.

StillaChocoholic Thu 23-Jan-14 19:00:42

I only had them on my boobs during pregnancy but almost as soon as I had DS I got them on my belly. Husband commented that only I could get stretch marks AFTER having the baby.

ouryve Thu 23-Jan-14 19:01:55

I've had stretchmarks since I was 10. Pregnancy just added a few more roads to the map, as it went on.

PinkandPoo Thu 23-Jan-14 19:12:43

2 pregnancies - no stretch marks

My mum has 4 children and no stretch marks either so it may be genetic...

Writerwannabe83 Thu 23-Jan-14 19:15:07

That's interesting - my mum didn't get any and nor did my sister with either of her pregnancies (and she got absolutely huge) grin

PoshPaula Thu 23-Jan-14 19:15:10

3 children, no stretch marks at all. I did rub in oil etc. through pregnancy but I don't think that made the difference.

bionic77 Thu 23-Jan-14 19:22:49

After DS was born! No stretch marks throughout pregnancy. Once everything had contracted back in to place boom there they were. Gutted as was feeling smug that I'd escaped.

TheDayOfMyDoctor Thu 23-Jan-14 19:24:48

Around a day after my due date and two weeks before DS was born angry

chickydoo Thu 23-Jan-14 19:29:11

4 babies no stretch marks, my mother never had any, neither does my sister....must be in the Genes.
Interestingly we are quite a skinny lot, and put on a couple of stone each time, but the skin just stretched but no marks. Very lucky.

schmalex Thu 23-Jan-14 19:34:10

Like bionic77, I was feeling smug and then some appeared around my belly button after my DS was born.

Meglet Thu 23-Jan-14 19:34:47

I didn't get them. DS arrived at 37 weeks and DD arrived at 39 weeks.

Mum never had any and she said her mum didn't get them either.

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals Thu 23-Jan-14 19:37:02

38+1. DS is 18 months old now and you can't see them anymore. Would still wear a bikini etc. They weren't particularly bad.

Apparently there's a link between tearing in childbirth and stretchies but not sure if it's scientific. I did both though!

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals Thu 23-Jan-14 19:38:31

My boobs got covered when my milk came in so might be worth putting your cream/oil on the boobs and hips a couple of times a day too.

Lifeisaboxofchocs Thu 23-Jan-14 19:42:15

2 pregnancies. both seven days overdue. not a stretch mark on me.

Lifeisaboxofchocs Thu 23-Jan-14 19:42:56

oh yes, no history of stretch marks.

IndigoTea Thu 23-Jan-14 19:45:35

At 38 weeks.

stickysausages Thu 23-Jan-14 19:49:47

34 weeks. Thought I'd dodged it, but now covered in them!

They fade though, I don't mind them smile

Ra88 Thu 23-Jan-14 20:11:57

39 weeks I got 2 right under my bump confused .. And I was doing so well !

PastaandCheese Thu 23-Jan-14 20:17:16

37 weeks with my first.

They looked bad at the time but once the baby was out they ended up sitting really low below my knicker line. They faded quite quickly too.

IHaveSeenMyHat Thu 23-Jan-14 20:18:09

28 sodding weeks. By the time I gave birth my bump was more stretchmark than skin, seriously.

But I'm short and had SUCH a sticky outy bump, the baby was more outside my body than inside grin

ZingSweetApple Thu 23-Jan-14 20:52:31

37 weeks. nothing one day , purple lines all over the next.

it was an awful discovery simply because I thought I escaped them!

now I don't care anymore. got C-section scar with DS4 and saggy boobs from bf 6 kids.

#7 is due in July.
I'm beautiful and happy. grin

AbouttoCrack Thu 23-Jan-14 20:58:05

Got then on my beanpole legs growing at about 6 inches a week when I was a 13 year old. Didn't get any during 2 pregnancies though. I got fat sure. Just no stretch marks.

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy Thu 23-Jan-14 22:01:10

Did anyone avoid stretch marks in their first pregnancy and then get them in their second pregnancy?

I had none in my first pregnancy but I don't dare assume that I'll escape a second time!

Alexchallex Fri 24-Jan-14 11:16:34

Didn't get them

ZingSweetApple Fri 24-Jan-14 13:51:38

<narrows eyes at Alex>

You heathen! grin

HugoTheHippo Fri 24-Jan-14 14:25:38

I got just a few at 39 weeks but, five months postpartum, they have pretty much faded completely.

YoungWoman94 Fri 24-Jan-14 14:43:09

I'm 24+ weeks and I have faint ones on my back.. they are visable but they dont bother me. I was 9 stone (5"7) before pregnancy and now over 10 stone so kinda expected to get then with how slim I was before!

count yourself lucky for not having them yet grin

weebairn Fri 24-Jan-14 14:43:18

I didn't get any and I didn't use any creams. Went to 40+5. I think it's genetic. I had quite a small bump.

natashajayne Fri 24-Jan-14 14:54:24

I got them right at the end of my second pregnancy as baby got bigger and i was thinner... but loads really early on with my third from over eating. sad

HabitualLurker Fri 24-Jan-14 16:37:32

I thought I'd get them as I have some from puberty, but no stretch marks as such. Went 2 weeks overdue, put on an average amount (2 stone) and am usually pretty slim. My belly was pretty big by the end.

BUT, despite no stretch marks my stomach doesn't look the same as pre-baby. I definitely have a slight deflated-balloon look going on, and there's extra skin there. Anyone else have that?

lastnightopenedmyeyes Fri 24-Jan-14 16:40:49

1st pregnancy I didn't get any until the day if the birth when I got one!

This time I got them really early on, on my tummy, buttocks and thighs confused I'm 40+2 and there's more every day now.

BuntyPenfold Fri 24-Jan-14 17:14:04

None at all, 2 pregnancies. No idea why, I didn't use any of those oils or anything.

fussychica Fri 24-Jan-14 17:30:10

No.

bigbuttons Fri 24-Jan-14 17:30:30

None in 6 pregnancies. I am very petite and one of my babies was 9lb 2. I reckon it's genetic tbh. My mum didn't have any either.

bigbuttons Fri 24-Jan-14 17:33:44

I also don't think any amount of frantic rubbing in of bio oil will make any difference to the elastin content of your skin. I never used oils.

eurochick Fri 24-Jan-14 17:36:44

My mum oiled her bump and boobs and got none at all there, but did get a couple on her bum/thighs, which were not included in the oiling process. So from this very unscientific sample of one, it seems like moisturising can make a difference. This would have been pre-bio oil. I think she just used ordinary baby oil.

ashamedmummy11 Fri 24-Jan-14 17:39:58

I used bio oil everyday from I found out I was pregnant with my first baby. I remember at 39 weeks lying on my bed admiring my un stretched bump. My husband brought the motor to the bottom of the bed and showed me my under bump. Stretched like a road map. hmm
I'm just a saggy bag of wind now 4 kids later. Lol

atthestrokeoftwelve Fri 24-Jan-14 17:41:09

Apparently age has a big bearing on whether we develop stretch marks. Older first time mother suffer far less.

THere does seem some evidence to support the idea.

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1913631/

I didn't have any stretch marks at all in my pregnancies ( my first pregnancy was in my late 30s)

FortyFacedFuckers Fri 24-Jan-14 17:42:03

I didn't have any until 40 weeks ended up having loads in the days he was over due sad

Givemeyouranswerdo Fri 24-Jan-14 17:42:21

I escaped them both times but am slim though the bumps were big and so were the babies. Didn't moisturise either. Just crossed my fingers.

OneMoreThenNoMore Fri 24-Jan-14 17:43:44

With dc1, the stretch marks didn't appear until I went overdue hmm, and then even more appeared after I'd given birth, as I lost weight very quickly.

With dc2, I think I started getting them around 30 weeks.

My mum had lots of stretch marks, and I already had some on my legs from growth spurts as a teen, so I was expecting them.

Two years on from dc2, and they've faded quite a lot. The dcs like them, as they know that they made them when they grew in my tummy, and dh claims that he likes them because they remind him of what my body did smile

littlemissbrum Fri 24-Jan-14 17:44:06

None. Skin a bit creasy above belly button though. I am working on my abs so I don't pop and get them with number two.

marshmallow2468 Fri 24-Jan-14 17:44:07

No stretch marks for me. I did think I'd developed them three weeks after, but DS liked to be jiggled on my belly, and they were actually teeny tiny bruises on my poor c-sectioned stomach caused by his feet.

Toomuchtea Fri 24-Jan-14 17:44:09

I had so, so many, with DS despite frantic oil rubbing in. By the end, my skin bled. Mind, you, DS did have an ocean in there with him (no decorous little damp patch with me when the waters went) so I was vast. Much smaller with DD, and I thought I couldn't possibly get any more stretch marks because my stomach was a mass of them already, but I did. Gutted.

Mumzy Fri 24-Jan-14 17:47:07

3dcs and no stretch marks i was very careful about not putting on unneccessary excess weight during all my pregnancies as i got stretch marks on my legs during puberty. Both my dm and dsis got stretch marks during pregnancy and both did put on loads of weight so not sure re: genetic link.

LegoCaltrops Fri 24-Jan-14 17:48:09

37 weeks. I'm short, was very slim before PG & put on a hideous amount of weight by full term. Woke up one morning & it looked like I'd been clawed by a tiger! At least they are all under my bikini line.

LabradorMama Fri 24-Jan-14 17:57:47

I went 1 week overdue, put on two and a half stone and escaped with one teeny stretch mark just above my belly button (weird) despite the fact that I'm already covered in them from puberty. I must have already been stretched to capacity!

Octopus37 Fri 24-Jan-14 18:12:46

Lots on my stomach that arrived with my first DS at 37 weeks (went nearly one week overdue), although only gained 20 pounds.
Made worse my second DS. None on boobs, but have one bigger the other following on from breastfeeding, although both boobs are only modest in size.

jammiedonut Fri 24-Jan-14 18:22:38

24 weeks, I had one of those comedy bumps that look like I'd stuffed a beach ball up my dress (measured 4ft around!). Sadly I am covered from rib cage to tops of my thighs with a few that crept round the back, despite copious oiling every fecking day. Ah well!

The age link fits in with my experience. I got loads of stretch marks on my hips when I went through puberty, but didn't get any at all with either pregnancy (aged 28 and 30). I did use lots of calendula oil on my bump though, for both pregnancies.....

whenhenshaveteeth Fri 24-Jan-14 18:34:13

None with DS1 and the start of 1 with DS2 just above my belly button (about 0.5cm), I was almost 41weeks by then and it felt like my stomach was going to rip open.

No moisturising at all for either pregnancy.

I put on about 2 stones with each and I'm relatively slim but my mother got none either with 2 children, so I think I've got good genes (for that!).

ogredownstairs Fri 24-Jan-14 18:57:35

No (2dc born at 40 and 38 weeks), and neither did my mum after 4 dc. I was huuuge with both of them (am normally 9st, stopped weighing myself at 13st both times.) No creams or anything - think it's just a combination of genes, luck and not going overdue in my case.

Kasterborous Fri 24-Jan-14 19:10:22

No I didn't get a single one. My Mum or sisters never got any either so must be genetic.

VodIsGod Fri 24-Jan-14 19:11:40

3 DCs, no stretch marks.

nouvellevag Fri 24-Jan-14 19:18:19

AFAIK people are either prone to getting them or they're not - no amount of oil rubbing is going to make a difference. I got shitloads but then I had some on my legs and hips already from puberty, so knew it would probably happen. I didn't gain a single pound with pregnancy, either (which meant that by the time I'd delivered baby, fluids and placenta I was over a stone lighter than when I fell pregnant!).

lovelyredwine Fri 24-Jan-14 19:22:07

I didn't get any, but dd was born at 38 weeks so who knows what might have happened if she had been late. I don't know if it's genetic, but my mum doesn't have any either.

I got loads, started around 32 weeks. All the way from my foof to above and around my belly button and my hips too. From one 7lb 13oz baby.

My mother gave birth seven times and has one stretchmark. Bitch.

I do wonder if you got loads the first time, what happened to your skin when you were pregnant again? Did it get worse? Did the old ones reappear?

IdrisElbaIsMyHusband Fri 24-Jan-14 19:41:14

Six pregnancies didn't get any

JRmumma Fri 24-Jan-14 19:41:43

None. DS born at 37 weeks though so missed that big growth bit at the end. Only moisturised as per usual during pregnancy too so no miracle creams. Mum a d Gran had no stretch marks though so maybe genetic

CaterpillarCara Fri 24-Jan-14 19:42:27

I got them almost instantly, on my boobs only. I was flat as a pancake and the pregnancy hormones just made my boobs go PING outwards. In fact, they were what made me think to test.

Don't see that any being careful with my weight or rubbing oil or whatever could have helped.

They are still very noticeable now, like my boobs are marble cake with two sets of colour / texture.

KatherinaMinola Fri 24-Jan-14 19:46:25

Never. I don't think you can do a thing to stop them though - it's luck/genes.

LittleYellowDuck Fri 24-Jan-14 19:47:11

Didn't get any with either of my two pregnancies

ODearMe Fri 24-Jan-14 19:48:08

You might get away with it, I didn't get any smile

Gluezilla Fri 24-Jan-14 19:50:40

None at all despite going to 42 weeks with all 3 pregnancies.
I use TONS of oil from the moment I found out I was PG

None with either of my two. Put on more than three stone and went ten days over with dc2. I do have a cs scar from the first however and stretchmarks from puberty on my bum of all places. Late 20s and early 30s respectively. No moisturising just hoped for the best.

makesamesswhenstressed Fri 24-Jan-14 19:55:12

8 and a half months. Bastard.
And I used fucking Bio Oil - what a con.

EmGee Fri 24-Jan-14 19:55:29

Two babies (first aged 38 and second at 40) and no stretch marks at all. I did oil/moisturize each time and put on no more that 10kg plus my bumps weren't huge. Was also induced each time at just after 39 weeks so maybe I would have got some if I had gone past due date? Who knows.

Alas, my pelvic floor has never fully recovered though sad

KatherinaMinola Fri 24-Jan-14 19:59:59

Ah yes - pelvic floor buggered. Can still wear a bikini though smile useful when dashing to the loo

salonmeblowy Fri 24-Jan-14 20:01:48

No stretch-marks and I was over 42 weeks when DS finally made an appearance. I also put on over 3st during that time.

My mother had 3 DCs and never got stretch-marks either.

Bankholidaybaby Fri 24-Jan-14 20:06:43

I didn't get any. Nor a linea nigra. I didn't moisturise.

FumblesandFrolics Fri 24-Jan-14 20:07:23

By 28 weeks I looked like I had been clawed by a wild animal from groin upwards. DD arrived at 33 weeks so they didn't thankfully get any worse. I think of them as my souvenirs of the time.

My Dsis has no stretch marks and also still has a flat stomach, she also has had 2 DC.

I clearly got all the dud genes grin

Pointeshoes Fri 24-Jan-14 20:09:39

Had loads on my legs from puberty already but didn't get any during pregnancy. I did moisturise a lot though.

ArgyMargy Fri 24-Jan-14 20:10:56

Never.

FluffyHen Fri 24-Jan-14 20:11:06

Never got them, even after 4 Dc. My tummy looks great.

I do have a lot of broken veins in my legs since pregnancies though sad

darjeelingdarling Fri 24-Jan-14 20:18:36

nope, neither did my mum. I think it'd genetic.

As my mum though, I too have veiny legs sad

ineedsomeinspiration Fri 24-Jan-14 20:21:27

I was expecting loads as got lots as a teenager. None arrived until I was a week over due then pop got loads. Don't really bother me that much tbh. Wasn't one for belly tops and can't remember the last time I had cause to wear a bikini.

GreenShadow Fri 24-Jan-14 20:23:19

No. Three pregnancies and not a single mark

piratecat Fri 24-Jan-14 20:24:15

i think it was at about 35 weeks, my midwife commented beforehand that i hadn't got any.

but i did. loads under belly down to pubes I'm afraid. you might not though!

stopgap Fri 24-Jan-14 20:35:29

Two pregnancies. First was a week overdue and no stretch marks. Currently 39+3, none this time, and being induced 39+6, so hoping to avoid them.

My mum got them. I used Mama Mio religiously and drank 2-3 litres of water a day throughout both pregnancies.

cherryhealey Fri 24-Jan-14 20:37:20

Fully expected to get them as have some on my hips from teenage growth spurt.

My mother had loads too so really thought they were unavoidable.

I went from 8 st 8 to 10 st 12 during my pregnancy but religiously drank 2 litres of water a day and used huge amounts of Palmers cocoa butter.

None....but I do think it's just random.

LittleBabySqueakSqueak Fri 24-Jan-14 20:51:25

I didn't get any. Moisturised occasionally with ordinary body lotion. I did tear a bit.

Truffkin Fri 24-Jan-14 20:55:56

40+2

I was gutted!

MrsMarigold Fri 24-Jan-14 21:25:14

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy I got none the first time and a few the second time

oldbutnotpastit Fri 24-Jan-14 21:28:10

9 pregnancies all born between 39 and 42 weeks no stretch marks .so definitely not inevitable . I never tore during any of the deliveries , so not sure what that says .
expecting dc 10 and no stretch marks so far.

coffeeinbed Fri 24-Jan-14 21:29:26

I didn't.
Still can't believe it.

caramelchaos Fri 24-Jan-14 21:34:00

Bum, boobs, tummy, calves, ankles.... saggy skin, 1 noticeably bigger boob, my hair fell out at the hairline, bags under my eyes.........
And one super cute giggly little terror. It's a good job one of us is good looking! shock

No stretchmarks through 2 pregnancies.

herethereandeverywhere Fri 24-Jan-14 21:38:00

Puberty, but not pregnancy confused

I don't know ... last few weeks ?, probably got worse every day (but you don't want to hear that?) ... and both of mine were late hmm

DownyEmerald Fri 24-Jan-14 22:09:04

Didn't get them. DD was 12 days early so maybe that helped - I had no idea they could appear so late.

I did tear tho'.

Lavenderhoney Fri 24-Jan-14 22:11:51

I didn't and I went from 8.5stone to 12.5 and over within about 5 monthssmile 2 pregnancies, ate about 3 times as much, all roast dinners and lots of fruit and veg, cheese, never stopped eating tbh, drank lots of water, lay about a lot exhausted just getting to the fridge.

I am back to my normal weight now, with no stretch marks, I think I just used normal body lotion, when I could be bothered and wasn't too tired after a bath. After the c sections I used body lotion all the time, and oils, but I did anyway before the babies.

abigboydidit Fri 24-Jan-14 22:14:13

2 pregnancies. Big babies and both 40+ weeks. No stretch marks -- but my fanjo is fucked--

Writerwannabe83 Fri 24-Jan-14 22:17:35

Wow - so many varied responses!!! I always assumed stretch marks always appear but obviously not. I gave myself a full body examination earlier and definitely no signs yet. I'm having an ELCS at 39 weeks so I still have 8 weeks to go......plenty of opportunity for them to suddenly appear grin My DH bought me loads of moisturising creams a few months ago but they remain unused in the bathroom, maybe I should start creaming myself up, can't do any harm I suppose smile

Teawaster Fri 24-Jan-14 22:38:34

None here either. Only one pregnancy but twins. No oils either
k

StopSquabbling Fri 24-Jan-14 22:51:35

I got none. I slathered on Clarins body treatment oil & 2 different bust creams every single day.

I don't think they made a jot of difference, just cost me a small fortune.

I think it's down to luck and maybe not putting on loads of weight.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor Fri 24-Jan-14 23:07:20

I didn't get any.

I was 40yo and not particularly toned before I got pg, and my bump was really quite big as I went 2 weeks over.

Didn't use any creams as too lazy.

Didn't do my pelvic floors either and oh boy am I paying for that laziness blush

ShowMeSaturn Sat 25-Jan-14 01:00:00

I'd rather have had stretchmarks than a 2nd degree tear and a prolapse grin.

First pregnancy slathered on the Palmers Cocoa Butter. I was very taut pre-bump so I'm surprised I didn't get marks. I pinged back taut very quickly after the birth.
Second pregnancy used no emollient 'anti-stretchmark' creams. That pregnancy I had diastasis recti (stomach muscles split in half) so was left with typical jelly belly. Again, I don't understand why I didn't get stretchmarks.

My Mother's Mum had 18 children (yes, 18) and Mum said she didn't have a single stretchmark. Mum had none either after four pregnancies. I do wonder if it can be genetic.
I'm not having any more babies sadly but I suspect I would get them the next time as my belly has no tone and probably little skin elastin now.

In all my years of swimming, I've never once seen a woman with stretchmarks. I often wondered if they hide them. If they were on show more, they'd be less taboo.

Only1scoop Sat 25-Jan-14 01:07:05

Didn't get any but neither has dm....think it's a genetic thing.

Cucumberscarecrow Sat 25-Jan-14 07:32:29

Yes, I got them in the last four weeks of my second pregnancy. One year and no creams later, there is absolutely no trace of them. My bellybutton is still a bit of a giveaway but no stretch marks or other evidence of pregnancy.

ShowmeSaturn, 18 children? Amazing!

atthestrokeoftwelve Sat 25-Jan-14 07:45:46

My feeling is that age of first pregnancy is a factor, weight gain and luck.
I don't think genetics has anything to do with it- my sister and mother are covered in marks, I don't have a single stripe- but they both had their first baby at 20, I was 38.

scarlettsmummy2 Sat 25-Jan-14 08:03:53

None with either pregnancy

TheSmallPrint Sat 25-Jan-14 08:18:33

I never got them despite DS2 being over 10lbs and a week late. There is hope!

Chacha23 Sat 25-Jan-14 09:35:28

got a few faint ones between 38-40 weeks, and then once DD decided to be late all hell broke loose, got a ton between 40 and 41+5 when she was born.

Junebugjr Sat 25-Jan-14 09:49:06

Two pregnancies, no stretchmarks. I didnt put on any weight apart from the baby though due to Hyperemesis. I had massive bumps and big babies both times. The midwives were amazed I didn't have any, as my stomach was huge. Didnt put cream on with the 2nd, think its genetic, my sister never had any either.

TheCunkOfPhilomena Sat 25-Jan-14 10:01:55

I went from 8st 4lb to about 12st with DS, I was huuuuge. No stretch marks though. The doctor I saw when I was about 20 weeks said that I wouldn't get any as I had 'that kind of skin'. I think it's just luck tbh.

I would be so pissed off if they had appeared after giving birth!

RaRa1988 Sat 25-Jan-14 11:30:00

I've read that there is a genetic link - ie if your mother got them, you're more likely to. I'm clinging onto that as I wear a bikini a lot and would feel self-conscious about them. She had one baby at barely 22 and the other at 42 and doesn't have a single stretchmark (we checked grin ). She doesn't think her mam did either, and she was a tiny little thing of 4'11'' who had three big babies. Fingers crossed for genetic causation!

Madasabox Sat 25-Jan-14 12:14:10

3 pregnancies and never had them

smilesallround247 Sat 25-Jan-14 12:18:26

I've just noticed mine and im 27 weeks sad

Kaekae Sat 25-Jan-14 12:23:48

Two children, no stretch marks. I rubbed in pure vitamin E oil everyday.

KristinaM Sat 25-Jan-14 12:32:39

Several pregnancies with Overdue large babies and no stretch marks.

I never used cream or oil.

So I think it's genetic . I'd didn't have Braxton hicks either.

I do have a post CS saggy tummy, if it makes you feel better wink

snottagecheese Sat 25-Jan-14 13:18:04

None for me, in either of my 2 pregnancies. Didn't use oils or anything, just got lucky. Do have a nice crepey tummy when I bend forward now though grin

higgle Sat 25-Jan-14 14:28:43

I thought I wasn't getting any with DS1, but unfortunately they were hiding under the bump.

grimbletart Sat 25-Jan-14 15:01:56

No stretch marks (2 children). But I think it is to do with your type of skin as I have had three knee operations and one back operation and the scars are so minimal as to be almost invisible. (In case that sounds smug, I have cellulite on my thighs instead)!

Want2bSupermum Sat 25-Jan-14 15:52:33

I got them after the 2nd. He was 10lb 6oz and I gained the same weight as I had done during my first pregnancy. I look 4/5 months pregnant if I don't do a pilates class once a week. Once we are done having children I will be having a tummy tuck.

AmIatwat Sat 25-Jan-14 17:08:00

Not a single one and I put on 4 1/2 stone during pregnancy.

JiltedJohnsJulie Sat 25-Jan-14 17:53:42

No I didn't. Bought that baby oil gel and rubbed it Ito my tummy every morning before getting out of the shower. Seemed to do the trick smile

MrsPatMustard Sat 25-Jan-14 19:11:26

About 36 weeks. Thought i was going to get away with it and then one day they were there.

I prefer to think of them as my stripes - hard earned and a sign of strength...

Thebluedog Sat 25-Jan-14 19:15:23

I didn't get any, I put on about 3 stone whilst pregnant.

My midwife reckons all these creams are useless, and don't do shit because if you're gonna get them, you'll get them.

ooh I am jealous of all these lack of stretch marks! In pg 1 I got my first stripes at 16 weeks - which was all wind/bloat and not even baby blush. I thought I hadn't done too badly but once my tummy deflated post birth I realised just how many stripes there were sad

I am pg with dc2 and was hoping to just recycle the last stretch marks but I am pretty sure I have fresh ones. Which is doubly annoying as I am slimmer this pg, plus my bump isn't measuring as big so how the fuck do I have more stretch marks?????

I didn't.
4 pregnancies, 2 of which went to 42+ weeks.
I did squat to prevent them.

What stretch marks I do have are on the outside of my thighs and I got them in puberty - they are virtually invisible now (it's been about 30+ years since I went through puberty, mind grin.

I don't feel smug about my lack of pregnancy-related stretch marks; I think it is totally down to genetically pre-determined elasticity of connective tissue.

Oh, yes, all the creams/oils are useless - use them if you like them and can afford them but they will not prevent one single stretch marks. Sorry.

jennymac Sat 25-Jan-14 21:53:17

I have millions which is pretty annoying as I didn't put on excess weight in either of my pregnancies. I did have excess fluid with my first though and the midwife said my marks were consistent with that. I didn't notice them till after my dd was born and I remember being pretty shocked. I have got used to them by now (7 years later!) and obviously she was worth it!

CuteLittleToes Sat 25-Jan-14 22:24:45

At about 38 or 39 weeks. And I didn't tear whoever brought up that theory hmm

Haven't read the entire thread, but maybe somebody brought that up already: creams don't help. You'll either get them or you won't. It's due to elasticity of connective tissue which is too deep for any cream to reach. If your bump feels dry just use your regular body cream/lotion...

Lioninthesun Sat 25-Jan-14 22:31:29

I was nearly 43months when DD came out. I am fairly sure the last two weeks were the worst, I could feel my skin tightening. I used bio oil though and only have a couple of small ones above my hips at the back and a couple of them on tops of boobs. I was really lucky actually as I put on over 3st in pg and then lost 5 stone in about 3 months after having her (ferocious breast feeding, was not healthy weight for me to end up at) so I think my poor bod/skin was under some undue strain shock

Lioninthesun Sat 25-Jan-14 22:32:07

Hahahaa 43 WEEKS!
Yes, that would have been some strain!

DramaAlpaca Sat 25-Jan-14 22:35:30

I've had three pregnancies & didn't get any stretch marks. I did develop thread veins on my thighs though, just like my mum.

apachepony Sat 25-Jan-14 22:38:03

I didn't get any. Never used any oils or creams but ds came 2 weeks early.

lastnightopenedmyeyes Sun 26-Jan-14 06:07:19

I'm coming up to 41 weeks now with dc2 and I'm getting lots every day. So gutted confused

IWantToBePippiLongstocking Sun 26-Jan-14 08:01:18

I think age bears a factor too.

I started having dc in my 30's. I got no stretchmarks. I know it is not down to genes as i have marks from my teen growth spurts so that would indicate i am susceptible to them.

lastnightopenedmyeyes Sun 26-Jan-14 08:27:32

Well I had DS at 32, I'm 35 now and tummy is covered in them. My mum had me at 36 and had none at all. So the age and gene theories don't work for me confused

woodlandwanderwoman Sun 26-Jan-14 08:49:03

None here and I put on 3 stone and gave birth at 42w

cafebistro Sun 26-Jan-14 09:09:41

I've had 3 largish babies and got no stretch marks.
My mum is covered in them.

InfiniteJest Sun 26-Jan-14 10:00:33

It's weird. I agree there's a strong genetic predisposition but I got them as a teenager, so I expected to get them when pregnant, but didn't get a single one. I went to 40+5 but I wasn't very big even then. I'm thin and short, so not sure where the baby was hiding but the bump was very small. Might not be so lucky if I have a second one!

minionmadness Sun 26-Jan-14 10:31:22

None here. Twins in my early 40's... Went to 37 weeks, dts's came in a 5.12lb and 5.5lb respectively, and I'm only 5.1ft. Total weight gain 2.5 stone.

Three sisters, two have then, two don't! None of us used anything other than our normal body creams.

SEmyarse Sun 26-Jan-14 16:36:44

I'm bloody annoyed that so many don't have them. I went 2 weeks overdue with ds, but because I was so tiny many people didn't actually realise I was pregnant, and the midwives were concerned about the size of baby.

I am actually bloody plastered in the things, belly, bum, boobs, the lot. AND my milk didn't come in properly so my boobs didn't really increase either. I suspect I have well over 100.

I'm annoyed too SEmyarse. I'm covered in them. My boobs suffered too when my milk came in.

Pixiedust49 Sun 26-Jan-14 18:58:47

I had DD when I was 37. No stretch marks at all. I was huge!!!

theQuibbler Sun 26-Jan-14 22:50:42

No stretchmarks and my babies were whoppers, both over 10lbs. Lucky genes. DS1 was a c-section and the surgical team kept going on about my huge bump and playing guess the weight and saying how unusual it was for me not to have stretchmarks.

citruslemon Sun 26-Jan-14 23:01:56

No stretch marks. Put this down to hubby massaging me with Bio-Oil every day.

RonaldMcDonald Mon 27-Jan-14 01:34:07

I was stretchmark free - completely and smugly- until 41 weeks
The next 5 days was traumatic....like a really awful roadsystem

BOFtastic Mon 27-Jan-14 01:37:46

I didn't get any, and didn't moisturise at all. I think it just depends on your skin. Dd2 has got loads just frm a puberty growth spurt. I'm sure some people are just prone to them, no matter what they do. They generally fade, and they aren't unattractive in any way- just a little bit of history on your body.

principalitygirl Mon 27-Jan-14 07:46:16

Just a single child here and not a single stretch mark. I felt v lucky until I realised I have separated ab muscles so still look a bit pregnant 18 mths after giving birth. Doing all the toning exercises I can... sad Would prefer stretch marks tbh. At least you can keep them hidden with clothing usually.

soupmaker Mon 27-Jan-14 10:40:01

Had DD1 at 37, put on about a couple of stone, no stretch marks. Rubbed Mama Mio oil and cream day and night into my bump. Felt oh so smug.

Had DD2 at 42. Put on a couple of stone but was considerably heavier when I started. Every now and again shoved some bio oil on my bump. Still felt oh so smug.

Week 39, had a look in the full length mirror. A mass of purple stretch marks on the underside of my bump!

They've faded and now I quite like them.

feekerry Mon 27-Jan-14 13:56:56

last pg didn't get any. put on about 2.5 stone, went to 42+1. babe nearly 9lbs. not a single mark.
this pg (38 weeks now) only put on about 11bs so far, absolutely covered in them!!! big deep purple ones (sad)

ShowMeSaturn Mon 27-Jan-14 14:25:21

Cucumber Yep (ouch!) Old fashioned London Catholic family with a bit of rumoured gypsy thrown in, so proper breeders.
She literally popped one out every year.
What is sad, is that after all those years bringing up children, when she developed severe dementia in her 70s, of all the surviving 16 grown up children, only one offered to take her in to his home rather than send her into care - and he was a property developer at the time. Unsurprisingly, she had to sell her bungalow...
