Hi all - I am brand new here (this is my very first post) and have just decided to start TTC this month.
I am 29, my husband is 31... I was wondering how long it took all of you to get pregnant (if you have managed)?

Butterytoast Wed 18-Dec-13 21:35:05

I was 27 First time round and all it took was a drunken careless holiday. This time at 30 it took 6 months from coming off the pill and injection. I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant smile

Tractorandtree Wed 18-Dec-13 21:35:40

First month both times, I was 27 with dc1 and 30 with dc2. I'm aware I'm very lucky.

Good luck smile

Plateofcrumbs Wed 18-Dec-13 21:36:46

15 months (aged 35)

Haribotangfastic Wed 18-Dec-13 21:37:23

First time got caught first month I came off pill, second time took 3 months but 3rd time took 9 or 10 months.

Mabelandrose Wed 18-Dec-13 21:37:29

First time both times!

tassisssss Wed 18-Dec-13 21:37:36

1st time - about 6 months though dh had just had testicular cancer so not on top form

2nd time - 2 agonising years (with 2 m/cs). Still painful to think about.

3rd time - she just crept up on us, I was still BFing loads and we weren't actively "trying" yet. Such a blessing after the previous time.

bigbangfan Wed 18-Dec-13 21:38:09

2 months, aged 33

Jbck Wed 18-Dec-13 21:38:23

Once with both, mid 30s then early 40s. DH said it was his Super-Sperm grin

Mabelandrose Wed 18-Dec-13 21:38:47

(Also aware I'm very lucky. And have had a mc, so im not so good at the rest of the pregnancy bit).

TobyLerone Wed 18-Dec-13 21:38:49

4 or 5 cycles this time.

I was 35 (now 36) and DH is 27. Currently 37+3.

Over two years- bbt, opks etc at 24.

Littlefish Wed 18-Dec-13 21:39:23

2 and a half years sad.
We were both 36 and were a month away from starting IVF when I found out I was pregnant grin.

Sasafraz Wed 18-Dec-13 21:41:03

It is normal to take 6 months to a year. Each month you have around 20% chance of pregnancy at your age. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't work right away. It took me 2 years and 4 IVFs but I am much older than you.

DontCallMeDaughter Wed 18-Dec-13 21:41:09

First baby was an accident, second one took 12 months!

Whobody Wed 18-Dec-13 21:41:27

We were lucky. 34 for first one and it took 1 month. 37 for second and it took 3 months.

That said I have friends who have taken 18 months to conceive no 2, so obviously it varies massively.

Chunderella Wed 18-Dec-13 21:43:14

I have had unprotected sex once in my life. It resulted in DD.

ItsaWonderfulLifeofGru Wed 18-Dec-13 21:43:56

1 month with DD1 aged 28
13 months with DD2 aged 32
1 month with DC3 aged 35 (14 weeks pregnant)

Barbsta Wed 18-Dec-13 21:45:13

I was keeping track of periods and expected ovulation dates and becoming obsessed straight away and had no luck after 2 month. I wasn't too worried but a friend told me she tried for 6 month doing it the same way then threw away her diary and just carried on as normal and got pregnant that month. I stopped checking on dates after the second month and stopped stressing and got pregnant the 3rd month smile must mean something if both of us got pregnant the same month we stopped stressing about it

Second month, although we were only practicing first one. I'd been off the nuvaring about 6 months which probably helped.

I'm 34.

piratecat Wed 18-Dec-13 21:45:59

3 yrs

AveryJessup Wed 18-Dec-13 21:46:50

About a year and a half to get successfully pregnant with DS. Was pregnant after 8 months but had MMC at 12 weeks. We were 32 and 30.

Trying now for DC 2 and so far we're 2 months in with no luck yet. I'm not that fussed as it's early days by my track record but I am jealous of friends who can time their age gaps whatever way they want! Not an option for us...

Unprotected sex once and DS was a result, and not planned

DD was planned took 2 months.

i know im lucky.

Bythebeach Wed 18-Dec-13 21:47:16

First was an accident, second and third both first month trying. Also aware very lucky.

Bythebeach Wed 18-Dec-13 21:48:39

At 26, 29 and 34.

isitcocktailhouryet Wed 18-Dec-13 21:49:22

First time both times, I was 36 and 38.

rachyconks Wed 18-Dec-13 21:49:37

10 or 11 months first time.
This time was "we should think about having another baby". Then I was pregnant. I'd only had 2 cycles post bf-ing!

TKKW Wed 18-Dec-13 21:51:02

first child: not planned and after unprotected sex, second one: planned and again, first month of trying.

Very lucky and DH seems very proud of himself.

Best luck to you both.

TKKW Wed 18-Dec-13 21:51:51

I was 29 1st time and DH 35.

TKKW Wed 18-Dec-13 21:52:42

2nd baby, i was 32 and dh 37.5 years old to be precise.

stickysausages Wed 18-Dec-13 21:52:54

It honestly varies so much, person to person. After an mc, it took over a year to fall pg again, which ended in another mc but I got pg again the 2nd cycle after. No rhyme or reason tbh!

Good luck OP, having lots of sex is a crucial thing that some people forget!!

mssleepyhead Wed 18-Dec-13 21:58:01

Two months, but it's early days yet. I'm 32 and DH is 36.

cbmb12 Wed 18-Dec-13 22:00:13

Congrats to all of you who are pregnant or have littl'uns!

Also reassuring to hear so many positive stories... it took my mother nearly 9 years (after some damage caused by a clunky 1970s IUD) and it makes me a bit nervous...

I have been going on the assumption of it being about a 20% chance each month (unless there is something more complex going on), but ...my god...I didn't realise how brutal the two week wait is! Its doing my head in!

sarahquilt Wed 18-Dec-13 22:01:15

A month. I'm 32.

MrsCharlieD Wed 18-Dec-13 22:03:21

4 years of unprotected sex but we didn't think we could get pregnant as i have A high bmi. We then went away for my 30th birthday and had lots of drunken frolics and boom. Im now nearly 16 weeks. My Dh is also 30 x x

livingzuid Wed 18-Dec-13 22:05:32

14 months ended in mc at 34. Now 15 1/2 weeks and took a further 7 months so was 35. Interestingly fell pg with this one a month and a half after thyroid problem was diagnosed and treated smile

RadgeWeeMidden Wed 18-Dec-13 22:12:14

First time but then miscarried. Now pg after 2 months trying

LittlePeaPod Wed 18-Dec-13 22:16:18

I am 37 and DH is 41. This is our first and it took six weeks post to conceive. Good luck op.

Mindboggle Wed 18-Dec-13 22:18:02

5 months, so not too long, but the two week wait gets old fast!

I was 25 & 27, conceived both times on the first cycle. My mum took 4 years conceiving me so I was a bit surprised. It did mean we doubled up on contraception after dd2 until Dh got the snip <paranoid>

cbmb12 Wed 18-Dec-13 22:21:39

Yep, the two week wait is a pain in the a**e. I am analysing everything. Am getting lots of twinges in ovary/hip area...and today I've been getting them in lower central pelvis...and am getting OBSESSED! Although am totally aware it could be IBS type thing, or stress...or so many things

Cariad007 Wed 18-Dec-13 22:30:00

2 shags, and I was 36.

cbmb12 Wed 18-Dec-13 22:31:04

I am enjoying these positive stories!

dimdommilpot Wed 18-Dec-13 22:39:24

Aged 25 first time and i was on the pill, so she was a surprise though very much wanted after we got over the initial shock.
This time i was aged 28 and it happened the first time we tried. We have been very lucky.

grobagsforever Wed 18-Dec-13 23:37:18

First month both times at 29 and 33. V v lucky.

youaremychocolatecake Wed 18-Dec-13 23:51:04

First time was an accident, a happy accident smile second time I came off the pill had 1 period and then got pregnant. I think That's probably quite unusual though, was expecting it to take a year for some reason. I clearly only have to glance in the general direction of a penis (never looking again) good luck with TTC winksmile

youaremychocolatecake Wed 18-Dec-13 23:51:31

And I was 26 and 30

lizziekal Thu 19-Dec-13 07:17:05

14 years for a spontaneous (and so far successful) pregnancy. Started trying when I was 25 and am now 39.

ASmidgeofMidge Thu 19-Dec-13 07:30:03

First time (28) got pg the first time we tried. Had been on the pill for some years. Second time (34) took about 3-4 cycles

AmandaCooper Thu 19-Dec-13 07:37:47

First month of trying - however I was temping and charting and knew my cycle inside out after years of waiting for DH to come round to the idea of TTC.

MissMedusa Thu 19-Dec-13 07:47:37

If this thread is anything to go by it sounds like getting pregnant first round is the norm which is nice to know for those starting to TTC. For me it was 2 years before I carried a baby past the first trimester but I am in a very small minority

Bunbaker Thu 19-Dec-13 07:49:00

17 years

EeyoreIsh Thu 19-Dec-13 07:55:09

2 years then a miscarriage. We were then due to start ivf (literally, they had the drugs in for me) when I got pregnant naturally.

I do have known fertility problems though.

Trooperslane Thu 19-Dec-13 08:03:16

8 years. 2 miscarriages. 2 ivf and 2 icsi

We are now feeling lucky, but it was hell getting here. sad

theborrower Thu 19-Dec-13 08:56:40

First time - me 29, DH 39, got pregnant the 2nd cycle.

This time - 33 & 43 - 4th cycle.

We've been lucky. I know friends who tried for years and ended up trying IVF - they now have twins but it was a long journey for them. I also know several people tht have miscarried. Not trying to our a downer on anything but stressing that not everyone is so lucky. But good luck, and enjoy all the 'practising'!

And yes, the 2ww is awful - one month I was so convinced I was pregnant, I would have put money on it I was so sure. Nope.

Frizz1986 Thu 19-Dec-13 09:19:53

I was very lucky and fell pg first time. Had come off the pill 3 months previously and changed my diet and took vitamins, am 27 and now 36+6 with my first.
My cousin however tried for 3 years and eventually got pg through ivf. She now has a lovely 4 month old.
It really is luck and i am very aware that if we decided to go for number 2 it is likely to take a lot longer as i cant imagine being this lucky again.

BookTart Thu 19-Dec-13 09:26:00

10 months first time around (which ended in mc) and then another 6 months for this one (37+3). We had an appointment to start with IUI booked for three days after I got my BFP smile We're a bit older though, 37 and 41 at the moment.

Strongecoffeeismydrug Thu 19-Dec-13 09:27:14

I month with dd grin.
7 years with dshmm( severe pcos caused secondary infertility).
Wasn't trying with this one shock. But she's going to be nine years younger than her brother and 18 years younger than her sister wink.

Foxeym Thu 19-Dec-13 09:31:30

I was very lucky, first month with DD1 at 27, first month with DD2 at 30 and 2nd month with DS1 at 42

weebarra Thu 19-Dec-13 09:34:21

DS1 - 1 cycle - 29
DS2 - 2 cycles - 32
DD - contraception failure this time last year - 35

stowsettler Thu 19-Dec-13 09:35:13

No time at all. On the pill, aged 39. One stomach bug and - bang. DP reckons he has super-sperm too. Hmm yeah right, we'll see about that if we go for no.2, by which time I'll be 41!

Mrsantithetic Thu 19-Dec-13 09:45:00

Dd (15 months) took over two years.

This one (7+2 pg) took three minutes.

Second shag since dd was conceived!!!! Planned but timing is about a year out!!

sharkey1187 Thu 19-Dec-13 10:01:42

It took us 2 months, I conceived the weekend of my 26th birthday! This surprised us as we never expected it so soon.. DH is very proud of his super swimmers.

We took a "let nature take its course" approach. The only dates I tracked were my periods (I have been irregular in the past and have a history of endometriosis), we never bothered with ovulation dates and just had sex when we fancied it. It only occurred to us that I might be pregnant when I said one day.. you know, my period should have started a week ago...

My advice is to just go with it, don't stress and enjoy the time with your DH/DP smile

dats Thu 19-Dec-13 10:12:24

9 months (ended in early mc) and then 5 months later (now 22 weeks)

(both times using opks and having had 2 years worth of temping in previous rel a few years ago where he turned out to have low sperm count)

dats Thu 19-Dec-13 10:16:08

Oh and I am 41 fgrin

Lauranne Thu 19-Dec-13 10:19:19

First time, was instant after a drunken night out aged 20, this second time has taken us 8 years x currently 11w+4 smile

milk Thu 19-Dec-13 10:22:52

DS1: I was 22, DH was 31. Conceived first month of trying.

DS2: I was 23, DH was 32. At the time I was EBF DS1 so that probably affected things. It took 5 months to conceive DS2.

Ds 1: I was 23, one time, got pregnant,

Dd: I was 25, dh and I slept together once and I got pregnant,

Ds 2: Im now 31 and due feb, again just took one occasion.

I found counting on 10 days from the first day (I think it was the first day) of my previous period and having sex that night worked all 3 times.

Gumps Thu 19-Dec-13 10:34:48

Three months of trying for ds1 when I was 27.
One month of trying for ds2 when I was 30 (much to dh's disgustsmile).
Over a year of trying for dd aged 32 but she was worth the wait. DH also regretted his earlier moan about it being too quick with ds2...

evilgiraffe Thu 19-Dec-13 10:36:45

Currently 14 weeks with #1. It took a little over three and a half years of TTC, including several investigative ultrasound scans, a hysterosalpingogram, a laparoscopy (which resulted in removal of one fallopian tube and a diagnosis of severe endometriosis), three months of hormone therapy, and long-protocol IVF.

We are astonishingly lucky that the first cycle of IVF worked for us, particularly given that endometriosis reduces your chances. I can't praise my surgeon/consultant enough, and am extremely grateful to the two IVF clinics who saw us through the cycle. The last three years have been very, very hard.

Oh, and DH and I are 31 now, started TTC at 27.

I hope all those currently TTC manage it more easily than we did smile

Junebugjr Thu 19-Dec-13 10:37:36

First month both times. Was 28 and 31 I think. I was very lucky.

lalouche Thu 19-Dec-13 10:39:39

3 months (mc)
4 months (dc1)
1 month (mc)
10 months (dc2) - felt like an age!
2 extremely half-hearted months! (dc3).

I don't understand fertility!

Safyre Thu 19-Dec-13 10:40:44

3 years + for DS. (I was 27 when I got pregnant). 6 months the second time round (am now 29).

BlackberryandNettle Thu 19-Dec-13 11:03:11

2 months (but mmc)
8 months (now 24 weeks pregnant)

I'm 32

BlackberryandNettle Thu 19-Dec-13 11:07:36

Good luck with trying - hopefully it will be easy but a good bit of advice I got was not to have a timetable - planning too far ahead, etc, just chill out

Spaghettinetti Thu 19-Dec-13 11:08:54

I started trying when I was 28, it took 9 months, but ended in MC in the May at about 9 weeks. I started trying again in the August and fell pregnant the following August, so a whole year... I'm now 21 weeks...

Spaghettinetti Thu 19-Dec-13 11:09:58

Oh and Blackberry is right! The more pressure you put on yourself, the longer it seems to take...

SatinSandals Thu 19-Dec-13 11:13:35

First month of trying each time, the third one being 39yrs. Just pure luck, nothing more.

mrsmugoo Thu 19-Dec-13 11:23:44

An accident!

YouAreMyRain Thu 19-Dec-13 11:27:56

12 yrs.

Started trying when I was 28, conceived when I was 40.

ThurlHoHoHow Thu 19-Dec-13 11:38:36

3 times accidentally. I'm not that rubbish really, contraception doesn't seem to work for me. Though because we've never officially TTC it might have been that contraception was failing every month and it actually took forever each time!

DP says he now understands how 14 year olds get pregnant behind the bike shed blush

Most people I know took roughly 6 months to conceive so yes, taking a timetable away will probably be less stressful for you. Good luck!

MoominMammasHandbag Thu 19-Dec-13 11:50:51

13 months aged 28
Accidentally aged 29
1st time aged 33 (miscarriage)
1st time again aged 33

I was so utterly stressed and desperate the first time around, now even in my late 40s, I worry about getting pregnant by accident.

First month twice, very lucky

VJONES1985 Thu 19-Dec-13 18:50:11

Five months, aged 28. Am five weeks pg.

BusyCee Thu 19-Dec-13 18:58:30

First time I was 34 and pregnant first cycle. Mc at 8wks

DS1, I got pregnant straight after mc, about 8wks after, but no AF in between

Third time took 8 months, and then mc at 8wks again

DS2 (4th pregnancy) about another 5 months from previous mc

Trying again now. DS2 is 5mo, I'm ebf'ing and haven't had AF yet, so who knows this time if ever again

Mama1980 Thu 19-Dec-13 19:09:28

Both times accidentally whilst using contraception.
1st ds born when I was 26 ds2 born when I was 31.

KLou1105 Thu 19-Dec-13 19:47:25

Stopped contraceptive pill after 7 years when we married in may, conceived in July now 25+1! Thought it would take longer we also realise how lucky we are! Good luck :-) x

Also like to add that I was on the mini pill. I'm 22 and DH 25

Timpani Thu 19-Dec-13 19:49:38

Two years at age 27 with IVF.

212smj Thu 19-Dec-13 20:16:44

3 months with DC1 aged 29
First time with DC2 aged 31

crabwoman Thu 19-Dec-13 20:43:50

DD1 - forgot to take pill with me on a 10 day holiday. I was 25 and had been on the pill for 10 years, so honestly didn't think it would happen!

DD2 - I'm currently 37 weeks. Got pregnant first month ages 29. Honestly thought it would take a lot longer, and I'm still stunned.

There have been a lot of fertility issues on either side of the family, so we are thanking our lucky stars!

DownstairsMixUp Thu 19-Dec-13 20:45:58

DS one month. Second first month again but i miscarried. This time it's been over three months still and nothing.

chestnutmare Thu 19-Dec-13 21:27:03

I'm 15 weeks pregnant with my first, but took 2 years and 9 months after coming off the pill to become pregnant. I'm 30 now.

tgamble13 Thu 19-Dec-13 21:37:52

came off pill last xmas we decided on march to start ttc but in a relaxed way ( we were in no hurry) and i was told years ago i may have probs ttc. am now currently 35 weeks pregnant grin cant wait to have a wee girl in my arms. try not to stress have fun and relax

duvetheaven Fri 20-Dec-13 18:55:01

1st time - 1 month
2nd time - 2 months
3rd time - 3 months
4th time - 1 month

All apart from 3rd time ended in miscarriage and was aged at least 37 years plus. good luck everyone

ccsays Fri 20-Dec-13 19:20:05

I was 28 (now 29) DP is 31. Was convinced for it would take ages, as my cycles are every six weeks or so. Fell pregnant the first month of trying, so it was a bit of a shock! We were both taking pregnacare, used conceive plus and cheapo ovulation testing tests from Amazon (and a period tracking app).

My due date is today fsmile

hellowonderful Fri 20-Dec-13 19:25:34

DC1 was an accident whilst on contraception so no tips there.

DC2 took six months of trying.

Grumblelion Fri 20-Dec-13 19:28:40

Age 33, 6 weeks after we stopped contraception. We were very lucky.

PastaForRudolph Fri 20-Dec-13 19:30:33

DC#1: First month

DC#2: Second month

GreatJoanUmber Fri 20-Dec-13 22:25:32

1st - first month (I was 28)
2nd - second month (I was 30)
3rd - unplanned while taking the mini pill?! blush (At 33)

GreatJoanUmber Fri 20-Dec-13 22:30:12

And I will add that I'm incredibly rubbish at dealing with TTC. With #2, I was freaking out when it didn't happen immediately again! I admire women who have fertility problems or who take longer and who don't turn into bitter, hateful bitches (because seriously, that's what I was like).
Good luck to you OP!

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight Fri 20-Dec-13 23:04:42

2 months after having copper coil removed

Age 35

I count myself very lucky - good luck x

Vijac Fri 20-Dec-13 23:05:34

First month. About to start trying again and expecting it to be quick but who knows. Fingers crossed!

Thatsnotmyfigure Fri 20-Dec-13 23:14:08

At 39 it took 13 months I was obsessed with my temperature etc. at 41 it took 5 months this time - am 6 weeks pregnant now. The worry of infertility was overwhelming and I've had friends who have been through years of pain so I do count my blessings

first time: first month but had termination for t21.age 33

second time: few months after termination so didnt really know what was going on with cycles but happened as soon as i used ov sticks. chemical pregnancy. age 34

third time (hes 2): month after chemical preg. age 34

fourth time (currently 34 wks): started trying in feb, relieved it didnt work that month as got offered new job. waited until id been there a month, started trying in mayand it worked. age 36.

i feel lucky that we have conceived easily, but have had our heartache through the loss of our first.

willyoulistentome Fri 20-Dec-13 23:32:05

Same month as vasectomy reversal 1st time. Within a couple of months of stopping using condoms 2nd time although not trying particularly hard what with having a 1yr old still feeding at night.

GeekyBea Fri 20-Dec-13 23:40:37

First try!

I was 32 and my partner 40, I'd been three years on the depo injection though it's been over a year since I went off. From what I read, with my age and such, I was expecting a small delay before conceiving, but to my shock and surprise, I conceived straight away.

busylizzie76 Fri 20-Dec-13 23:47:39

14/15 cycles for dc1 (I was 29 when I conceived)

Dc2 conceived the first cycle after giving birth to dc1 blush

MatryoshkaDoll Fri 20-Dec-13 23:54:53

1st pregnancy was an accident. Miscarried at 7 weeks. I was 32.

2nd pregnancy was planned. I'm 33 now and it took us 3-4 months to conceive (not exactly sure when my first proper cycle was after coming off pill). Am due on Jan 8th.

First time 14 months - took a while for my hormones to get back to normal after being on the pill.

Second time unplanned but miscarried.

Fell pregnant again after 2 months, all going well so far smile

randdom Sat 21-Dec-13 11:48:23

Aged 27 - four months resulted in a MC and then 2 months later got my positive test. Now 17 weeks.

sdaisy26 Sat 21-Dec-13 18:01:02

Dd - 2 years + clomid (had a mc 6 months before conceiving dd)

Currently 27 weeks pg with #2, just leaving things up to fate after dd so not really expecting to get pg - I conceived but mc the first month I think I ov'd after dd (she was 10 months), then amazingly conceived this one the very next month.

ClearlyMoo Sun 22-Dec-13 07:46:06

Came off pill (microgynon) in June, conceived 3rd cycle. I tracked BBT on an iPhone app so knew when I was ovulating. Very blessed. I'm now 20weeks! Eeek!

ClearlyMoo Sun 22-Dec-13 07:47:06

I'm 34 and DH is 36, and we thought it would take ages as my periods are a mess left to their own devices!

The first time I was 19 and I'm not sure how long it took as ds was a surprise but I think it was on my first or second cycle after I mucked up my pill.

Second time I was 21 and conceived 2nd go.

3rd time I was (am) 25 and conceived 2nd time again.
